Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU) is looking for an ambitious organizational scholar in Information Systems, with a specific interest in the management of IT, data, AI, and cybersecurity.

Your function

We seek to further expand our top-level research and teaching in the field of Information Systems. Therefore, we are looking for internationally oriented, ambitious, and collegial scholars who share our passion for the field of Information Systems, data, AI, and cybersecurity. We specifically are seeking candidates showing great research potential with a track record of published papers and promising studies aimed at top journals.

For this opening, we are looking for someone with an ambition to conduct high quality research and teaching focusing on managerial issues concerning IT, data, AI, and cybersecurity. Topics may include, for instance, the business value of data and AI, management and governance of cybersecurity, and enterprise architecture management. You are expected to engage with businesses and other societal stakeholders, in line with the School’s societal impact strategy.

Your duties

  • initiating, conducting, and supervising high-quality research
  • publishing in top-tier publications and grant acquisitions
  • teaching and course coordination in the BSc and MSc programs of the School of Business and Economics, including teaching Business Information Systems (BSc) and the AI Lab (MSc), and thesis supervision
  • contributing to the KIN Center for Digital Innovation in providing executive education and collaborating with the business community and other stakeholders
  • contributing to the Department/School through service and (eventually) committees
  • be committed to obtaining a university teaching qualification or possessing one already

Your profile

  • a PhD in information systems, business administration, organization studies, innovation studies, or a related discipline
  • strong quantitative methodological skills
  • a track record of research publications in top journals in the field of information systems and management, and strong promise through high-quality working papers aimed at top journals
  • an ambitious research agenda and pipeline related to themes such as digital transformation, data-driven business innovation, business value of AI, enterprise architecture, and cybersecurity
  • experience in, and passion for, teaching in bachelor and master programs
  • interest in collaboration with industry partners and societal impact; experience with executive teaching is a plus
  • fluent in English (command of Dutch language is a plus)

What do we offer?

  • a salary of minimum € 4.728,00 (Scale 11) and maximum € 7.297,00 (Scale 12) gross per month, on a full-time basis (exact salary depends on education and experience)
  • a position for at least 0.8 fte; the employment contract will initially last 18 months and can be converted into a permanent contract depending on performance in light of criteria formulated at the start of the contract
  • candidates should be willing to acquire a basic qualification in teaching as demanded by Dutch universities (if they do not already have one)

KIN Center for Digital Innovation (KIN) is one of the departments of the School of Business and Economics at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. KIN researchers study the development, use, and business value of innovative organizational processes and technologies. We collaborate closely with faculty and researchers from other universities and cooperate with an extensive network of business partners. The KIN department is also responsible for several courses in the Business Administration curriculum at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and coordinates the Master Digital Business and Innovation.
