Traineeship in data science and analytics in facility services

Your team

You will join the Directorate Administration, part of the Directorate General Corporate Services. Our Directorate consists of three divisions responsible for delivering a wide range of facility services, including technical and space management, logistics and infrastructure, and security and safety services. We also oversee the ECB’s environmental management system. We are on an exciting journey to automate facility services, create digital workplace solutions and integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into our tools. Our aim is to improve both operational efficiency and the experience of our internal ECB customers.

In your role as a trainee, you will be part of the Administrative Services Division, a diverse team of around 60 professionals in which collaboration and curiosity are highly valued. Together, we provide customer-oriented facility services, striving to continuously improve them and make them more sustainable, innovative and people-focused. We believe that achieving our goals requires not only technical and analytical expertise but also a genuine interest in and understanding of the needs of others. Based on your education, your areas of expertise or knowledge, and – where possible – your preferences, you will be assigned to one of two teams: the Functional Support and Operational Analytics team or the Logistics team.

Your role

As a trainee in the Administrative Services Division you will:

  • collaborate with operational teams to analyse and streamline processes, making them more efficient and customer-focused;
  • design and implement sustainable automation to reduce manual workloads;
  • develop statistical analyses and data science solutions to support operations and decision-making;
  • explore, test and develop new tools and technologies, with a focus on innovative solutions;
  • transform and visualise datasets for diverse projects using advanced data processing and visualisation techniques;
  • provide regular analytical reports and present insights to stakeholders in an engaging and accessible way;
  • actively listen to colleagues and stakeholders, ensuring that technical solutions align with their needs and expectations.

In Functional Support and Operational Analytics, you will:

  • provide horizontal support across all teams in the Directorate Administration, offering technical expertise and analytical insights.

In Logistics, you will:

  • contribute to improving processes related to logistics, mail, inventory management, relocations and other facility services, helping to shape solutions that are both practical and people-oriented;
  • assist in coordinating logistics activities and supporting our transition to a dynamic workplace concept.

This traineeship offers you excellent opportunities to learn from experienced colleagues, gain hands-on analytics experience and work with leading technologies in a dynamic and inspiring environment. The traineeship is designed to help you grow both professionally and personally. You will receive structured guidance and mentorship in the early stages of your traineeship and will have the opportunity to explore diverse tasks tailored to the team’s needs and your strengths. Later on you will take ownership of your own projects, contributing to meaningful improvements in our services. You will be part of a multicultural team that strives for continuous improvement to make a positive impact on the lives of European citizens.

Qualifications, experience and skills

Essential:

  • a bachelor’s degree or higher in data science, statistics, mathematics, physics, computer science, facility management, logistics, supply chain management, engineering, business or public administration, environmental and sustainability management, finance, communications, international relations, economics, or another related field;
  • knowledge of at least one programming language, such as Python, R or SQL;
  • experience in data processing, data visualisation and quantitative analysis;
  • a good knowledge of the MS Office package;
  • an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Desired:

  • experience in using Python for application programming interface (API) development and web integration;
  • experience with computer-aided facility management (CAFM) systems (e.g. Planon), enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems (e.g. SAP) and data visualisation tools (e.g. Tableau, Power BI, Dash, Streamlit, R Shiny);
  • knowledge of natural language processing or other AI applications;
  • knowledge of analytics for facility services or other administrative fields (human resources, budget, accounts);
  • knowledge of lean management or process streamlining.

You are curious and eager to learn, and want to further develop your ability to analyse complex information. You are keen to collaborate with others, pursue team goals and learn from other people’s diverse perspectives. You strive to know and anticipate stakeholder needs, and will signal any need for change and propose alternative solutions.

You are motivated to contribute to the ECB’s mission, to serve the citizens of the EU as a member of a public institution and to work with colleagues from all over Europe. You are keen to be part of our team and to use your skills and competencies to achieve the aims of this position.
