As a Specialist in Operational Capacity Management at Alliander, you play a crucial role in keeping the electricity grid safe and stable in the short term (0–48 hours). You operate at the heart of day-to-day grid operations, where real-time insights, forecasts, and decisions come together.

The energy transition is impossible without you as Specialist Operational Capacity Management

In a highly automated environment, you work closely with automated systems. You combine advanced automation with human judgment to proactively prevent congestion and safeguard grid reliability. You monitor current and expected grid conditions, intervene when necessary, and directly contribute to the continuous operation of the energy system.

At the same time, you contribute to the ongoing development of these automated systems. By translating operational experience into improvements, you help make the systems smarter, more robust, and ready to scale as the electricity grid continues to evolve.

You’ll be working on:

  • Monitoring the grid and intervening when human action is required in an otherwise autonomous system.
  • Translating signals from the Grid as a Service (GAAS) platform into concrete operational actions to prevent or mitigate bottlenecks.
  • Handling incidents in close collaboration with control rooms, experts, and customers.
  • Turning operational experience into structural improvements for processes, tooling, and decision support.
  • Translating theory, policies, and new capabilities into clear, workable procedures that colleagues can apply immediately.
  • Contributing to development on the various intelligent systems.
  • Feeding operational insights back to development teams to improve automation, observability, and robustness of an otherwise autonomous system.

You make the grid more complete at Alliander

Alliander consists of several companies working together to build a reliable and future-proof energy grid. With a large team of skilled professionals, we develop and manage the energy grid for millions of residents and businesses in the Netherlands. Everything we do is with care for the people who rely on us: our customers. Together with you, we make the energy transition possible—for and with our customers.

And you’ll do that at our business unit Alliander. Your impact on tomorrow’s energy grid starts at System Operations.

That’s only possible if you have enough energy—and the right environment gives you that. Within System Operations, you’ll work alongside ambitious, and internationally oriented colleagues to develop an autonomous, safe, and resilient energy system. In the Operations team, you’ll ensure the grid is used to its full potential and that we can respond quickly to disruptions or capacity issues.

You make the grid more energetic

You know how to turn data into action and maintain oversight in a dynamic environment. You do that with your own strength and talent. And you do that with us. Will you contribute with your analytical skills and operational focus? And complement that with:

  • A minimum of HBO+ level education and 1 year of relevant work experience.
  • Experience interpreting data to quickly assess situations and determine the right action.
  • Knowledge of energy networks, predictive models, and/or energy systems.
  • Ability to advise independently at the operational level.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively.
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbally, given the international nature of the organization.

Customer focus comes naturally to you. You understand that everything we do ultimately impacts our customers—and you act accordingly.

Better arranged for you

  • A gross monthly salary ranging from €4,082 to €5,831 (scale 8).
  • An annual Individual Choice Budget (IKB) of 18% (full-time) or 12.8% (part-time) of your gross annual salary. This includes 8% holiday allowance. You can choose to have this amount paid out, or use it to purchase additional leave days.
  • 24.5 vacation days per year, which you can easily supplement using your IKB.
  • A year-end bonus in December of 6% of your annual salary.
  • An annual Sustainable Employability (DI) budget of €700, for example to cover costs for sports or hobbies, make your home more sustainable and green, or reduce your student loan with DUO.
