Software Engineering Intern

As Virtuagym keeps growing, we are now looking for a new face to complement our Development team as a Software Engineering Intern. During the Software Engineering Internship, you will be part of a diverse team of Software Engineers. You will participate in every stage of the Software Development Lifecycle, such as: Software Requirement Engineering, Software Design, and Software Implementation in various formats.

This is a remote position (within the Netherlands), where you will be working for our Amsterdam office. We are a remote-friendly company, meaning you can work from your home at all times within the Netherlands. Additionally, you can work from any location you want within Europe up to 4 weeks at a time for a maximum of 12 weeks in a year.

What this role looks like

As a Software Engineering Intern at Virtuagym, you will be a part of the development process by actively participating in refining product requirements and contributing to the design, implementation, and testing of technical solutions. You will be working closely alongside experienced engineers and other members of the engineering team who will guide and support your growth, providing you with the necessary tools and resources to achieve your personal development goals. Throughout your internship, you will also gain hands-on experience in unit, integration, and end-to-end testing of our software.

Qualifications and Skills

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, IT, STEM, or a related field OR other relevant experience

• Passionate about software engineering, coding, programming, architecture, and related disciplines

• Enrolled at an EU University and/or already living in the Netherlands (HSM Visa sponsorship is not possible for this role)

• Highly motivated, enthusiastic, and possessing a strong work ethic

• Proficient in English (verbal and written)

• Proactive, innovative, and full of new ideas

• Confidence to ask questions and desire to explore the unknown

• Available for a full-time internship for a minimum of 3-6 months

• Knowledge of Python, JavaScript, and/or PHP

Preferred, but not required

• Familiarity with Agile methodologies

Responsibilities

• Follows the learning plan agreed upon by their supervisor within the specified timeline.

• Participates in team meetings and provides status updates on project progress

• Learns and follows coding standards and best practices.

• Assists in designing, coding, testing, and debugging software applications.

• Participates in code reviews and provides constructive feedback.

• Assists in troubleshooting and resolving software defects and issues.

• Documents technical specifications and processes.

• Performs research and stays updated on industry trends and technologies.

• Assists in the implementation and integration of new technologies and tools into the software development process.

• Takes ownership of assigned tasks and completes them within the specified timeframe.

• Seeks guidance and asks questions to enhance learning and improve skills.

• Adheres to company policies and procedures related to software development.

• Due to long waiting times to get a social security number (BSN or ‘burgerservicenummer’), we are only considering candidates based in the Netherlands who are already registered with a BSN.
