About this position

Do you want to contribute to the development of cutting-edge instruments used in space missions and advanced scientific research? Then join TNO's Space & Systems Engineering expert group as a Performance Engineer. Our team excels in the design, assembly, and calibration of optical instruments for Earth observation, optical communication, spaceborne and ground-based astronomy. As a Performance Engineer you will have the opportunity to collaborate with experts in the fields of optics, mechatronics, manufacturing, and systems engineering. Let ‘s work together in a multidisciplinary setting to shape the next generation of instruments!

What will be your role?

As a performance engineer you can:

  • Work with and develop end to end instrument simulators
  • Process measurement data from verification and calibration campaigns
  • Write algorithms to analyse data
  • Understand the instrument measurement principles to verify the analyses quality
  • Document the results
  • Improve methods for further campaigns and develop new methodologies
  • You will perform these tasks in project teams, working closely with one or more systems engineers.

What we expect from you

To be succesful in this role you have:

  • A Masters (MSc) degree in (applied or experimental) physics or equivalent.
  • Experience in Python and Git, you understand optical instruments, and you work well in a team.
  • A pioneering mentality, and you are comfortable with the uncertainty that comes with scientific and engineering challenges.
  • Excellent communication skills, energy, creativity and a boundless curiosity, and therewith you can convince and inspire colleagues and customers alike.
