In this role, you become a key member of our Custom Engineering department within the PLC/SCADA team (12 colleagues). You’ll work on advanced and innovative dredging projects—ranging from dredging vessels to cutting-edge simulators—in a friendly and collaborative environment. In most projects you’ll join forces with a Project Manager, Lead Engineer, and fellow engineers. Your main focus will be on programming and developing technical designs, with the freedom to innovate by creating new functionalities and standards. This role also offers the opportunity to mentor junior colleagues, and for ambitious candidates, a future Lead position could be the next step.

Your job:

You will be responsible for designing, programming, and testing control and automation software that monitors, processes, and measures systems in dredging operations. You will develop and code applications that integrate and optimize control systems, drafting detailed functional specifications to guide your work. Additionally, you will configure and implement user interfaces using SCADA packages, ensuring seamless integration with PLC systems—such as those from Allen-Bradley or equivalent technologies—into the overall system architecture. You will set up comprehensive system configurations and conduct thorough testing with simulation tools, ensuring robust performance across projects. Whether you are focused on a single project or juggling multiple assignments simultaneously, your work will drive the success of our advanced maritime and simulator initiatives.

Your profile:

  • Maritime or shipbuilding experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of and experience with designing, programming, and coding.
  • Relevant work experience and the ability to think and work at a higher professional (HBO/Bachelor or University/Master) level.
  • Experience in configuring different types of networks.
  • A solid foundation in technical English; proficiency in Dutch is a plus.
  • Must hold a valid EU work visa (residents only). Only candidates with a valid EU work visa will be considered.

We offer:

  • A competitive gross monthly salary, supplemented with 8% holiday allowance (based on a full-time working week).
  • Good work/life balance with 40 vacation days for full-time employment with the option to buy or sell (additional) leave.
  • The possibility to work from home with associated expense allowance and/or to perform the work on the basis of flexible working hours (depending on the position).
  • An average salary pension scheme in which matters are properly arranged in the event of accidental death, incapacity for work or unemployment.
  • Good disability insurance.
  • Participation (on a voluntary basis) in the Social Fund, on the basis of which care and related costs are reimbursed that are not covered by your health insurance.
  • Discount on VGZ's additional healthcare insurance.
  • A training budget of €1,500 every three years.
  • Unlimited sporting in our own fitness room (in exchange for the sustainable employability day).
  • € 0,21 per kilometer commuting allowance.
  • A profit-sharing scheme.
