Do you want to work together with inspired colleagues to create a world in which nature and people thrive? And help build a ‘nature positive’ impact in biodiverse priority landscapes around the world by mobilising people to act? That is what you will do when you work at WWF Netherlands (WWF-NL).

WWF-NL is a professional and dynamic organization with an informal working culture based in Zeist, the Netherlands. The organisation consists of four departments: Conservation, Engagement, Organization & Talent Development and Finance & Operations. In this light WWF-NL is looking for a Coordinator Technical Expert NbS for DRR-program.

WWF-NL and Netherlands Red Cross (NLRC) are collaborating on scaling the application of nature-based solutions (NbS) for disaster risk reduction (DRR) and climate change adaptation. A promising approach to help achieve safer communities and healthy ecosystems, globally. An important barrier preventing mainstreaming of NbS is the lack of a standing methodology to assess the full potential and benefits of NbS for people and economies. WWF-NL and NLRC have started a ‘NbS for DRR-program', creating high-quality integrated landscape plans, quantitatively assessing the economic and financing opportunities, with a comprehensive methodology, for the projects and/or landscapes we are involved in. This will result in more effective and successful engagement with governments and other stakeholders in the landscapes, ultimately leading to more adoption of (parts) of our plan/vision for the landscape and implementation of NbS.

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about leading a team with the main objective to develop NbS for DRR integrated landscape (climate adaptation) plans. This will be done jointly with implementing WWF offices & Red Cross Red Crescent (RCRC) National Societies and in a process with stakeholder involvement. The coordinator will participate in this process and be responsible for delivering an integrated landscape plan, organizing the means and processes to be able to do so, and giving day to day lead to the rest of the incubator team.

The coordinator will functionally report to the WWF-NL & NLRC program leads, and hierarchically to the WWF-NL Thematic Team Lead. This function will not involve advocacy, strategy, communications and/or fundraising work; it will be fully dedicated to operational work; running the integrated landscape planning work of the NbS for DRR-program and delivering the desired outputs with other colleagues from WWF and Red Cross (and other organizations).

Roles and responsibilities

  • Lead coordinator on integrated landscape planning for NbS for DRR-program
  • Manage day to day work with junior staff member and future additional staff
  • Together with WWF-NL & NLRC program team further develop, maintain and deploy incubation process assessment framework, contract external parties
  • Primary contact towards implementing offices
  • Perform data collection and assessments, coordinate with external experts for data analysis, compile whole assessment
  • Write the integrated landscape report
  • Participate in person in landscape planning meetings and present, explain data outputs
  • Give training to implementing offices on integrated landscape planning (including MEL, advocacy and others)

Who are you?

Required

  • Broad experience with landscape planning processes and having proven technical expertise in performing data based biophysical and/or economic-financial assessments. Prior experience in landscape planning projects with multilateral development banks would be an advantage.
  • Sensitive and diplomatic towards existing structures (of both networks) while at the same time a self-starter that can inspire colleagues.
  • Interest in international works and can work well with different cultures.
  • A demonstrated courageous and creative person who dares to draw conclusions from a not totally conclusive data set and stand for it.
  • Experienced with coordinating work processes with small staff and contracted experts.
  • Experienced in working with NGO’s offices in developing countries and facilitating and training them in/with the integrated landscape planning process and the steps beyond.
  • Good writing skills and be able to compile high quality reports for different target audiences.
  • WWF-NL and NLRC are part of a large international network, so good mastery of the English language (both verbal and written) is necessary.
