You see what others call complexity as an opportunity to create impact. As Engineering Manager, you guide large-scale infrastructure projects from idea to execution. You connect people, disciplines and ideas — turning technical challenges into visible, lasting results for the Netherlands and beyond.

The Position

You are part of the Project Management Team and report to the Project Director. Together with the Contract Manager, Process Manager, Environmental Manager and Construction Manager, you make sure every design decision supports our mission: building resilient infrastructure for future generations.

  • Lead multidisciplinary design and preparation teams, ensuring smooth interfaces between work packages
  • Translate requirements into innovative, sustainable and commercially sound designs
  • Apply creative technical solutions that support CO2-neutral construction
  • Challenge and improve our technical methods and standards using your knowledge and vision
  • As team lead, guide and develop a core team of 8–10 professionals with diverse backgrounds

YOUR WORKPLACE

You will be based in our Rotterdam office, with frequent presence on project sites across the Netherlands. You work within the Tender & Engineering department and report functionally to the Manager Engineering of the Infra Land product line. During tenders you operate from Rotterdam, while during project execution you will often work from site.

Your Impact

You are an analytically strong Engineering Manager or Integrated Design Lead who thrives in the complexity of large-scale infrastructure projects. You combine technical expertise with strong communication and stakeholder management skills. You know when to adapt and when to take a stand — and you are not afraid to make clear decisions when needed.

  • A Master’s degree in Civil Engineering (Hydraulic or Geotechnical Engineering is a plus)
  • At least 15 years of relevant experience in civil infrastructure, preferably in linear infrastructure or dike reinforcement projects
  • Excellent communication and reporting skills in both English and Dutch
  • Confident, self-driven and able to create alignment across disciplines and interests

Over jou

We Offer

We offer you a position in which you will make an important contribution to our mission of “building a better world for future generations” in an organisation that focuses on exclusive market segments. You will be part of a professional and collegial working environment where innovation, quality, flexibility and creativity are the keys to success. In addition, we offer you:

  • a salary commensurate with your responsibilities and experience;
  • 32 days of holiday (of which a maximum of 7 are collective); a variable bonus, depending on factors including the company's results;
  • a company car and working from home allowance (€2.40 per day);
  • flexible working from home arrangements;
  • on a full-time basis, you can work from home two days a week;
  • extensive development opportunities, including a very comprehensive online academy from Goodhabitz;
  • an attractive pension scheme; unlimited use of our fitness room at our head office in Rotterdam;
  • various communities to join, such as: Young Van Oord, Van Oord Women and the Van Oord staff association; various events and sports activities, including winter sports, sailing weekends, cycling and motorcycling;
  • option for collective health insurance (Van Oord pays for your supplementary package).
You come up with something at your desk and then see it actually working on a ship. That’s incredibly rewarding.
