The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced biochemist to lead and run the Protein Facility within the Hubrecht Institute. The Protein Facility, established in 2021, supports Hubrecht research groups with a variety of protein-related projects, including protein purification, characterization, and biochemical assay development. The successful candidate will work within the laboratories of Prof. Puck Knipscheer and Dr. Francesca Mattiroli, with access to state-of-the-art biochemical equipment and expertise. Initial onboarding will be provided by expert personnel.

An important aspect of this position is clear and goal-oriented communication with scientists from diverse research areas within the Institute. The successful candidate will:

  • Express and purify proteins from different systems (bacteria, yeast, and insect cells)
  • Perform quality control procedures and protein characterization
  • Design new tools based on users’ needs (e.g., set up new protocols, devise new analysis strategies)
  • Advise and/or teach users

Critical skills involve the systematic documentation of lab procedures, proper planning, and independence. An enthusiastic and constructive work attitude, along with strong communication skills, is essential.

The position is open to candidates with MSc or HBO degrees. However, candidates with a PhD are strongly encouraged to apply, due to the ambitious and challenging nature of the projects. Established experience in biochemistry is required.

For questions, please mail to p.knipscheer@hubrecht.eu or f.mattiroli@hubrecht.eu
