Introduction

FC-223 is responsible for developing software applications in the wafer alignment domain at ASML. We create tools that help our customers optimize, monitor, and diagnose the wafer alignment process within Twinscan.

Your Assignment

We are looking for a motivated intern to support our software development teams in improving the quality and maintainability of our codebase. The focus will be on addressing code issues identified by SonarQube, supporting refactoring efforts, and enhancing unit test coverage.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Analyze and resolve code issues reported by SonarQube (bugs, code smells, security hotspots).
  • Assist in refactoring existing code to improve structure, readability, and performance.
  • Improve and expand unit test coverage in critical areas of the codebase.
  • Collaborate with developers to understand system architecture and coding standards.
  • Contribute to clean code and test automation practices.

Learning Opportunities include:

  • Gain hands-on experience with static code analysis tools like SonarQube.
  • Deepen understanding of clean code principles and refactoring techniques.
  • Learn to write effective and maintainable unit tests.
  • Work in a professional Agile development environment with experienced engineers.

This is a (HBO) bachelor apprentice internship for 6 to 12 months, for 2 to 5 days per week (at least 3 days onsite for full-time). The start date of this internship is February 2026 (or sooner). Please be aware that the internship interview will include a live coding session.

Your Profile

To be a great match for this internship you:

  • Are a (HBO) bachelor student in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Have experience in Java and Maven.
  • Are able to work independently and autonomously and are pro-active.
  • Have strong communication skills and are fluent in English (verbal and written).

Other requirements you need to meet:

  • You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship.
  • Attach your cover letter with a clear motivation why you are interested in this internship assignment in particular.
  • You need to be located in the Netherlands to perform your internship. In case you are currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, your CV/motivation letter should include your willingness to relocate.
  • If you are a non-EU citizen studying in the Netherlands, your university must be willing to sign the documents relevant for doing an internship (i.e., Nuffic agreement).
