Werken bij Thales: SOTAS System Engineering

About SOTAS

More than 85,000 colleagues worldwide work daily to make the world a safer place. In the Netherlands, Thales employs 2,500 people, with around 250 based at Thales Huizen, which holds a leading position in highly qualified radio and network communications.

Based on a solid legacy, SOTAS at its core is a voice communications solution used by the crews of military vehicles (e.g. armored personnel carriers or battle tanks) during their missions. SOTAS is recognized for its highly reliable operation by our customers around the world, many of whom we at Thales have been serving for decades.

Similar to the integration of telephony systems with networked computing technologies in the commercial markets, SOTAS is now expanding its horizon to support the next generation integrated mission systems, primarily in vehicles.

To meet this challenge, we are looking for a talented system engineer who, as a member of the SOTAS System Engineering Team at Thales Huizen, is eager to contribute to the realization of this vision.

About your future job

Within the SOTAS System Engineering Team, your primary responsibility will be to develop the operational user needs into an envisioned solution, as new capabilities for the SOTAS product line. Given the nature of the SOTAS products and systems, a multidisciplinary approach is essential to achieve the reliability on which the crew of a military vehicle depends to accomplish their missions. This requires a good understanding of engineering, validation, certification and manufacturing products that both mechanically and electronically display a high degree of field-proven robustness.

As a system engineer, you will balance the product requirements with the contributions of everyone involved with their realization. The SOTAS System Engineering Team applies the agile principles for its development activities.

Being part of our group means that you will be involved in various activities: there will be a moment to discuss your solutions with the consultants, and there will be time to define the interaction between our systems and other systems in the vehicle. You will frequently meet with your team to learn from each other and to discuss the progress as you strive for continuous improvement.

Your primary responsibilities include:

  • Analyzing and defining the requirements of SOTAS operational users.
  • Assessing and articulating how SOTAS can effectively meet operational needs.
  • Developing the system specification and system design, considering the interfaces between Thales (sub)systems and third-party systems.
  • Defining tasks and responsibilities for the Software and Hardware Competence Teams.
  • Enhancing system engineering processes, promoting agility, and fostering team collaboration.

Why you'd be a good match

  • Holds a degree in Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Possesses a diverse background with a strong interest in technology across a wide range of areas.
  • Demonstrates extensive experience in product development, certification, and manufacturing.
  • Outstanding communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Is innovative, and maintains a proactive approach to challenges.

What's in it for you

  • A challenging job in a great team within our high-tech, innovative work environment. Includes the freedom for initiative and good ideas.
  • Room for personal and professional growth within our organization, for example in regards to technical, commercial or international skills.
  • Valuable international collaboration with coworkers from 68 different countries around the globe.
  • A comfortable work space in a modern environment, with a focus on flexibility and the right work life balance.
  • You can usually work where and when you want to be able to do your work as well and efficiently as possible. Within Thales we implement hybrid working, where you can, for example, work from home two days a week if your role allows it.
  • A good salary, fitting travel allowance, and the ability to personalise your employment conditions: for instance, you can trade days off for internet costs, our bicycle plan, company fitness and relocation costs.
  • 40 days off per year (PTO). Yes, really.

Diversiteitsstatement
