The Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) Manager is responsible for managing and overseeing all safety, health, and environmental activities at the manufacturing site. This role focuses on creating and implementing programs that ensure regulatory compliance, protect employee well-being, and reduce the site’s environmental footprint. The SHE Manager plays a key role in embedding a strong safety culture across the organization and will drive continuous improvement initiatives related to workplace safety and environmental sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

SHE Program Leadership & Compliance

  • Design, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety, health, and environmental programs that meet local, state, and federal regulations, as well as company policies.
  • Lead incident investigations, analyze root causes, and develop corrective action plans to prevent recurrence. Oversee CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Action) for documented risks.
  • Serve as the site’s primary contact for all SHE-related regulatory agencies and ensure compliance during audits, inspections, and permit applications.

Training & Safety Culture

  • Develop and deliver SHE-related training programs for employees and contractors to ensure awareness of safety policies, procedures, and emergency response plans.
  • Foster a safety-first culture by leading initiatives such as behavior-based safety programs, Gemba safety walks, and continuous hazard awareness campaigns.
  • Coordinate emergency drills and lead efforts to keep emergency response plans updated and effective.

Risk Management & Continuous Improvement

  • Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and implement effective mitigation measures.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop ergonomic solutions, improve machine safety (e.g., LOTOTO, machine guarding), and address health risks in the workplace.
  • Lead initiatives for continuous improvement in SHE practices by analyzing safety trends and implementing proactive measures to minimize injuries and environmental risks.

Sustainability & Environmental Impact Reduction

  • Lead the site’s sustainability initiatives to reduce environmental impact, including waste reduction, energy efficiency, and emissions management.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and other relevant environmental management standards. Regularly update and manage environmental documentation, such as safety data sheets (SDS).
  • Oversee the site's environmental protection programs, including hazardous material management, pollution prevention, and water conservation.

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Act as a key member of the site leadership team, working closely with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to integrate SHE requirements into all business activities.
  • Drive cultural change by coaching and mentoring employees on safety behaviors, promoting accountability, and encouraging a proactive approach to workplace safety.
  • Track and report SHE metrics using a SHE scorecard, ensuring that all performance indicators are aligned with corporate goals and industry benchmarks.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health, Industrial Safety, or a related field.
  • Fluent in both Dutch & English.
  • Minimum 5-10 years of experience in SHE management, ideally within a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Strong understanding of OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory requirements, with experience managing ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 compliance.
  • Demonstrated experience in risk assessment, incident investigation, and behavioral safety program implementation.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional teams and drive safety culture.
  • Strong leadership in safety culture development.
  • Proficiency in risk management and continuous improvement techniques.
  • Knowledge of environmental sustainability practices and standards.
  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and drive impactful SHE initiatives.
  • Collaborate with regional and global leaders to implement best practices, share knowledge, and align with corporate strategies.
  • Provide regular performance reports to senior management, highlighting risks, opportunities, and progress toward goals.
