Engineering internship: Lean management in TWINSCAN factory

Introduction

TF Operational Excellence (OE) is the game changer for the TWINSCAN factory (TF) and directs the structural improvement roadmap towards Operational Excellence. The structural improvement roadmap is the One Single Agenda for TF with all initiatives, programs and activities connected to realizing the TWINSCAN factory vision.

The Operational Excellence transformation roadmap integrates Safety, Quality, Lean and Business Improvement and is event and deliverable based. TF OE drives TF to create sustainable improvement on the business performance focusing on a full-scale change of organizational culture. TF OE drives business performance impact, organizational maturity, preparing for the future and growing our people, and provides regular business support.

Your assignment

We are looking for an intern in the Lean team. The Lean team co-leads (with line management) the OE transformation within TWINSCAN factory, with a focus on embedding Lean philosophy where people are engaged to improve processes continuously to boost business impact. We support the TF business leaders and guide teams with training, coaching and facilitation and lead and execute improvement projects to drive business impact. Together with line management we build internal capabilities to improve processes and results by cross functional teams on a daily basis. We act as a role model for the lean way of working and respectfully challenge the status quo. There are several possible assignments in the team:

  • Improving the process around continuous improvement submission from Gemba: how to report and also share with own department and other departments.
  • Work with Border of Line team in Flow Factory to create a process where new/ improvements to racking can be made.
  • Investigate training methods
  • Develop change management policy describing what impact changes in procedures have on operators and how to circumvent them to avoid miscommunication and defects.
  • Help to create a dashboard for Flow Factory: e.g. cycle times, lead times and variations, WIP levels, inventory turnover etc.

This internship is suited for bachelor/master level students. Internship lasts for minimum 5 months (with possibility to extend to maximum 12 months total), for minimum 4 days per week (or full time). Starting in September 2025.

Your profile

To be a good fit for this internship, preferably you are a student in industrial engineering, business administration, or any other engineering discipline. Additionally you have also:

  • Knowledge about Lean principles is highly preferred.
  • Fluent in English (verbal and written).
  • Team player, you will be working with multiple stakeholders and in a team.
  • Communication skills.
  • Proactive attitude and a self starter.
  • Proficient user of MS Office tools.

Other requirements you need to meet:

  • You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship;
  • You are located in the Netherlands to perform your internship. In case you are currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, your CV/motivation letter includes the willingness to relocate;
  • If you are a non-EU citizen, studying in the Netherlands, your university is willing to sign the documents relevant for doing an internship (i.e., Nuffic agreement)
