You'll have the opportunity to dive into the wonderful world of AI. We have narrowed our focus down to four expertise domains: GenAI - Customer Experience, GenAI - Emerging, Manufacturing & Supply Chain and Energy & Utilities. In each domain we offer research-focused internships, where you can take a deep dive in a topic and gain hands-on experience in an innovative, dynamic and experienced team.

What we are looking for:

• For the technical internships you are currently studying in a field that is related to computer science and are looking for a fast-paced environment where you can work with the latest data & machine learning technologies (for non-technical internships a business-oriented field of study is preferred).
• For technical internships strong analytical abilities, knowledge of different statistical methods, mathematics and a familiarity with research studies are preferred
• Technical internships: familiarity with statistical analysis languages and tools like Python, SQL
• Excellent verbal and written communication in English
• Someone who is motivated to launch his/her career, ML6 can offer you the ideal springboard to your professional career!

Note: Internships at ML6 are part of your education, as we support you in developing your skills and future career, and are therefore unpaid. If you want to follow an internship at ML6, a contract via school is always required.

• Energy & Utilities ⚡️

  AI can optimise resource management, enhance grid efficiency, and accelerate the transition to clean energy. This intersection holds the key to a sustainable and greener future, making it a crucial avenue for innovation and progress.

  A potential topic is imbalance & imbalance price prediction in the Belgian electricity market.

• GenAI 🎨

  At ML6, we specialise in developing pioneering, ethical, and high-quality Generative AI applications. As an intern you'll dive into the heart of cutting-edge research and development, contributing to solving critical challenges related to alignment, security, truthfulness, bias mitigation, performance optimisation, latency reduction, and cost efficiency.

  Potential internship topics include Text-to-Video models in Generative AI, comparing small versus large LLM's, multi-vector approaches for retrieval, etc.

• Manufacturing and Supply Chain ♊

  This domain focuses on using AI in the context of Industry 4.0. Think about digital twins, predictive maintenance, root cause analysis, process optimisation, process steering. We also see value for use cases where labeling data is expensive or difficult to do, which we tackle by using segment anything model, active learning or surrogate models.

  Besides that, we also offer the opportunity to get hands-on with an ML6 robot arm and gain experience with imitation learning, reinforcement learning and Robotics GenAI.

  Potential topics include robotics, keypoint matching, deep 3D scene reconstruction from 2D input, etc.

• AI & Bio 🧬

  Biology is intrinsically complex and diverse. Despite decades of research, nature still holds many secrets. Today, there is an opportunity for AI to support the experts: mapping experiment input and output over very complex biological functions.

  Potential topics include reinforcement learning on bacterial metabolism networks, building digital twins to steer and challenge bioreactors or multi-agent approach to generate relevant protein sequences.

• Information Management ℹ️

  The Information Management unit powers the ML6 teams with effective information. In order to this, we develop a series of internal tools (e.g. dashboards, applications, etc). We offer you an opportunity to work hands-on on applications, be it backend and/or frontend. We are looking for candidates that have worked with mainstream backend (preference: Python) and/or frontend languages (preference: React).

• Business Development 🤝

  The Business Development team at ML6 focuses on identifying new business opportunities with artificial intelligence for clients across Europe, developing deep client relationships with them and acting as a trusted advisor.

  To support the team in establishing ML6's presence in the Belgian/Dutch/German market, we are looking for a curious and ambitious intern that studies marketing, sales or another business-related field and is eager to put their theoretical knowledge into practice. Previous knowledge of AI is not required.

• Ethics & AI ⚖️

  Generative AI has rapidly transformed the technology landscape. However, along with its potential, it raises significant ethical concerns that demand careful exploration.

  These ethical risks span across issues such as bias and misinformation. Research internship centred on ethical guardrailing, AI's impact on Energy consumption and so on would involve a thorough investigation of these risks, drawing on existing academic papers, industry reports, and case studies, with the goal of producing an insightful deliverable in the form of a blog post, whitepaper, or ethical framework.

  This is not a technical internship, which means a technical field of study is not required.
