Mechanical engineering internship: Parametric tool design

Introduction

Are you a Bachelor/Master student with a background in Mechanical Engineering? Do you also like coding and automating activities? Then this internship might be interesting for you!

Your assignment

Within ASML we develop actuator assembly and qualification tooling specific to every actuator due to differences in dimension. This assignment targets to utilize the potential of commonalities assembly principles by creating a parametric design methodology and accompanying software tools/files with it.

  • Investigate assembly processes of different types of actuators
  • Identify commonalities in build steps that translate into similar process design requirements for tooling development
  • Identify key dimensions in actuator design that translate into specific product design requirements for tooling development
  • Develop a parametric software file that can communicate with the design program (NX), taking specific product design requirements (key dimensions in actuator design) as input and knowing similar process requirements (commonalities in build steps) translating them to create a baseline tooling design as output.

The goal is to cut down the initial tooling design time from several weeks/months to less than a day for the specified spectrum of tools across the actuator assembly process and enable factory to build new actuators with higher efficiency using parametrization and design automation.

Your profile

To be a perfect match with this internship assignment, you:

  • Are an HBO/Bachelor/Master student in the direction of Mechanical Engineering (background in Computer Science is preferred)

  • Have experience with 3D Modelling;

  • Have basic knowledge of coding

  • Are proactive with a can-do mentality;

  • Are able to work independently;

  • Have good communication skills in English.

This is an apprentice internship preferably for 6 months for 3-5 days per week starting as soon as possible (no later than September 2025).

Other requirements you need to meet:

  • You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship;
  • You need to be located in the Netherlands to be able to perform your internship. In case you’re currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, your CV/motivation letter includes the willingness to relocate.
  • If you are a non-EU citizen, studying in the Netherlands, your university is willing to sign the documents relevant for doing an internship (i.e., Nuffic agreement).
