About this job

We are currently looking for a Space Weather Expert to join the team in Breda. Working remotely is also an option.

As a Space Weather Expert, you will be working on projects that aim to provide information related to Space, Oceanography, and Meteorology, maintaining and implementing developments in the field of Space Weather, and initiating and coordinating the necessary research. Given the importance of this field, you will also participate in designing and providing training courses.

Main responsibilities

  • Developing and maintaining the national Space Weather service, by drawing the requirements cooperating with experts in the field and related research institutes, and integrating the relevant developments
  • Defining the options and priorities for several projects and communicating them to the management team
  • Assisting in determining the research boundaries and coordinating the implementations
  • Analyse the existing knowledge gaps and define how to solve them
  • Liaise with customers and cooperating institutes to advise and implement the necessary policies related to the implications of Space Weather
  • Developing and delivering courses and training regarding Space Weather
  • Supervising and supporting junior colleagues and working students
  • Keeping track of the progress and scientific literature in the field of Space Weather
  • Participating in national and international events in the field of Space Weather

Requirements

  • Completed Master’s or PhD in the fields of Physics, Mathematics, or similar fields
  • 5+ years of experience working with Space Weather preferably in academia, and expertise in solar activity is considered a plus
  • Experience programming with Python, R, or data visualisation tools
  • Comprehension of systems and the SPWX influence on them
  • Expertise with operational and experimental computer models and their usage for space weather
  • Capacity to analyse scientific literature
  • Experience working in project-base arrangements
  • Skilled in giving presentations both in international and national events
  • Mandatory fluency in English and Dutch (preferable), both written and spoken
