Join Our Purpose – Feeding the Future

Nutreco is a member of the SHV family, and we are committed to 'Feeding the Future' through sustainable and innovative practices. Nutreco has two business lines: Skretting is a leading global provider of innovative aquafeed solutions, revolutionizing aquaculture for a sustainable future. Trouw Nutrition specializes in animal nutrition and is committed to advancing livestock health and productivity through cutting-edge solutions.

Driven by an internal desire to reduce our environmental footprint and increasing attention from our customers and suppliers, Nutreco is seeking a full-time Sustainability LCA Lead, who will be part of our global Sustainability team, and will report to the Nutreco Sustainability Director. The location of this position is either the Nutreco HQ in Amersfoort, the Netherlands or the Skretting Division office in Stavanger, Norway, based on the preference of the candidate.

As raw materials make up most of the footprint of Nutreco (e.g. 96% of the carbon footprint comes from raw materials we buy), this role will support our Sustainability CoE, global procurement, innovation, marketing, commercial and R&D teams with gathering data, providing footprint insights, setting up Life Cycle Assessments and strategies, with the goal to reduce Scope 3 impacts.

Next to that, aligning our calculations and methods to globally recognized standards, keeping them up to date and supporting standardization efforts in various industry collaborations is a part of this role. Transparency on our impact is a growing area within Nutreco and our industry, therefore this role will be an important part of our mission to Feeding the Future.

About The Role

Responsibilities:

  • Lead environmental impact and sustainability assessments of raw materials, products and the organization, together with the Global LCA Specialist and other people in the sustainability, innovation and procurement teams.
  • Collect, update and improve inventory data based on methods consistent with Nutreco, LCA standards and industry best practices in order to perform Life Cycle Assessments.
  • Build and maintain databases with relevant footprint information, link them to other data systems, and develop (automated) reporting.

Skills and Expertise

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 6 years experience in the sustainability area and demonstrated experience in LCA– preferably in the food/feed sector or agriculture.
  • Academic and/or professional background in agriculture, environmental sciences/engineering or biological sciences and a strong analytical mindset is preferred.
  • Strong stakeholder, project management and analytical skills.
  • It will be ideal to have a structured, precise and creative approach, to come to concrete assessments and to master the balancing act between scientific robustness and applicability without making the job unnecessarily difficult.

Expectation from Role:

  • In cooperation with Procurement Category Managers, liaise with suppliers to secure deeper understanding of footprints of our raw materials and supply chain, validate supplier’s footprint data, develop a footprint benchmarking system and identify options to practically reduce our footprint, e.g. to achieve Nutreco’s Scope 3 Science Based Targets.
  • Communication on sustainability metrics to the global innovation, commercial and procurement teams, internal and external.
  • This role will support the creation of our Sustainability LCA CoE.
  • On the longer term, support commercial teams in developing products and services targeted towards and based on our understanding of the environmental footprint.
