The Head of Engineering Competence Center will drive and streamline all activities related to the technical support required for Structural Connections and Firestop applications. In this position you will lead and oversee the engineering design team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality structural connection and firestop solutions and services as part of our value-added offering.

The role involves strategic planning, team leadership, project management, and technical expertise to drive innovation and excellence in engineering designed solutions and play a key role in differentiating our offering in the market.

What does the role involve?

In this exciting new role you will be responsible for leading and managing the GB Engineering Competence Centre team as well as technical activities including; value engineering, structure connection designs, firestop engineering judgements and technical customer service.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Lead and manage the team, providing direction, mentorship, and regular support
  • Develop and implement clear strategic plans for ECC team aligned with our global ambitions to ensure we deliver added value and differentiated solutions to our customers and specifiers
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment within Engineering as well as other departments like Sales, PMO, construction Project management
  • Oversee the design and development of structural connections and firestop solutions
  • Ensure design projects and solutions are completed on time, and to the highest quality standards
  • Coordinate with other departments and stakeholders to ensure seamless design and project execution
  • Build up a strong technical expertise within the ECC team to provide high quality technical guidance and expertise in structural connections and firestop design as well as other areas if necessary
  • Stay updated with industry trends, latest standards, and best practices when it comes to design and project execution within the construction industry space
  • Establish and maintain an effective quality assurance and control processes to ensure the accuracy and reliability of design outputs for better customer experience
  • Conduct regular reviews and audits of design work and process workflow to ensure compliance with defined Hilti standards, customer expectations and industry regulations
  • Liaise with our engineering and sales team to proactively reach out to customers and specifiers (and encourage your team to do the same) through planned regular field visits to their office or job site to follow up on our service level quality, check on customer experience and maintain strong relationships ensuring their needs and expectations are met

What you need is:

  • A Bachelor’s / Masters degree in Engineering
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Previous experience of leading and developing teams
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential

Any experience in the below would also be highly advantageous:

  • Experience working in complex, large-scale business environments
  • Demonstrable experience in field-based roles and customer-facing positions
  • Knowledge and experience in fire protection
