As a DB2 Systems Programmer at Barclays, you'll build and maintain infrastructure platforms and products that support applications and data systems. You'll leverage hardware, software, networks, and cloud computing platforms to ensure that the infrastructure is reliable, scalable, and secure.

Required Experience

  • Experienced in the installation, maintenance, and upgrade of the IBM DB2 product and related products (DB2 CA, DB2 Connect, Data Studio, etc.).
  • Excellent understanding of Mainframe operating system tools: TSO, JCL, REXX, SQL, etc.
  • Practical experience working as a DB2 Systems Programmer.
  • Strong understanding of system performance and monitoring techniques.

Desired Skills

  • Experience with DevOps tooling e.g., VS Code, DB2 Developer extensions, etc.
  • Experience with z/OSMF.
  • Experience with Broadcom and IBM DB2 tools.
  • Experience with DB2 internal and RACF Security.

Purpose of the Role

Your key responsibility will be to build and maintain infrastructure platforms and products that support applications and data systems, ensuring their reliability, scalability, and security. You'll achieve this through software engineering techniques, automation, and best practices in incident response.

Accountabilities

  • Build Engineering: Develop, deliver, and maintain high-quality infrastructure solutions to fulfill business requirements, ensuring measurable reliability, performance, availability, and ease of use. Identify the appropriate technologies and solutions to meet business, optimization, and resourcing requirements.
  • Incident Management: Monitor IT infrastructure and system performance to measure, identify, address, and resolve any potential issues, vulnerabilities, or outages. Use data to drive down the mean time to resolution.
  • Automation: Develop and implement automated tasks and processes to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention, utilizing software scripting/coding disciplines.
  • Security: Implement a secure configuration and measures to protect infrastructure against cyber-attacks, vulnerabilities, and other security threats, including protection of hardware, software, and data from unauthorized access.
  • Teamwork: Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, architects, and other engineers to define IT Infrastructure requirements, devise solutions, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives via a data-driven approach.
  • Learning: Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations, and actively contribute to the organization's technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
