Want to make your mark on our time? Come work as a Projectmanager Digital Health at TNO in Leiden!

About this position

Innovation in the field of healthy working and living starts with good cooperation. Between governments, companies, healthcare parties, and patient associations. Under your leadership, together we develop solutions for the society of the future.

What will be your role?

You will work as a project manager within the unit Healthy Living & Work, in the Research Group Microbiology & Systems Biology (MSB). You will work mainly within the Systems Biology team on projects around the themes of digital health and personalized health. The focus for this vacancy is on projects around the themes of digital health and the application of Artificial Intelligence for optimizing health. The projects within the Systems Biology team focus on:

  • Understanding human biology
  • Improving health using lifestyle as a treatment for lifestyle-related diseases
  • Creating innovations for our partners in this area

In doing so, we aim to achieve societal impact, such as health gains for all and reducing healthcare costs. Together with colleagues and partners outside TNO, you will develop new projects and innovations, such as using sensors to measure health and offer relevant lifestyle interventions or developing ways to use health and wearable data while respecting privacy.

As project manager, you will ensure the successful running of innovation and collaboration projects on behalf of TNO. Working with various partners and in partnerships is crucial, as it allows us to shed light on issues from multiple angles. The projects are often funded from different sources, sometimes entirely from companies or subsidies, and sometimes a mix. Your job is to manage the expectations of these partners, keep them involved, and ensure that projects meet the conditions.

Together with subject matter experts, you manage TNO project teams, often consisting of colleagues from multiple departments. At the same time, you closely monitor the interests of external partners. This makes the projects you coordinate challenging. For instance, the interests of companies may differ with the subsidy conditions or the objectives of TNO. That is why you are closely involved from the preparation of the project application. You work together with a business developer and a content expert. Together, you examine which partners to involve, who fits best with projects, and what the various interests are. You manage the budget and schedule, aim for good results, and stimulate the development of your project staff. You often have several projects, which usually take at least a year to complete. You work structured and often in blocks on projects, but are always available to parties for questions and advice.

As a project nears completion, you play an important role in creating the end result or report. Sometimes you write these yourself; at other times, you schedule tasks for your project team and clarify the wishes and requirements for reports.

What we expect from you

Translating scientific objectives into concrete actions: that's where you draw your energy. You understand the many interests in government funding and mixed-funding projects and have a keen eye for them. You feel at home in this interesting playing field. You constantly keep your finger on the pulse of the various parties, involve them in projects, and give proactive advice if you think things need improvement.

Next to this, you have:

  • A university degree or PhD in a relevant field, such as bioinformatics, medical informatics, medical biology, or health sciences.
  • Extensive experience leading projects with multiple stakeholders and commercial parties, often involving multiple interests. Experience working on projects in the field of digital health and/or personalized health is an advantage.
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Preferably an IPMA certification. If you do not yet have this certification, you can obtain it with us.
  • Affinity with Healthy Living, with interest in the role of AI and digital capabilities in healthcare.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Good command of Dutch and English.

What you'll get in return

Challenging and varied work with a real impact. And plenty of opportunities as, at TNO, you are in charge of shaping your career. We offer a gross monthly salary between € 4.500,- and € 6.000,- (based on your knowledge and experience), 8% holiday pay, a 13th month bonus of 8.33% and a flex budget (5.58% + € 180). In addition, you will be given every opportunity to develop yourself. TNO offers optional employee benefits, enabling you to tailor your benefits package to match your personal situation. You may also expect:

  • An extremely professional, innovative working environment where colleagues are leading experts in their field.
  • The opportunity to attend courses, workshops, and conferences, and to receive training and coaching based on your needs.
  • 33 days annual leave on a full-time basis.
  • An employer that values and encourages diverse talent, with initiatives like the Female Leadership Program, our Rainbow Community, and round tables on inclusion topics.
  • A comprehensive and flexible mobility plan that includes full compensation for public transportation for commuting and business travel.
  • Great social events with your team and other TNO colleagues. That’s how you will get to know a lot of people really quickly.
  • Flexible working hours, the possibility to work part-time (32 or 36 hours), and the possibility of working from home.
  • Access to TNO’s project managers guild: a network of some three hundred equals, organizing workshops, conferences, intervision sessions, and other activities for project managers.
  • A good pension scheme.
