With their scientific knowledge, our researchers are increasingly at the basis of social innovations in the fields of Human Health & Life Science, Connected World, Governance for Society and Science for Sustainability. At VU Amsterdam these profile themes are closely linked to our identity and refer to the social domains in which we work toward a better world through education, research and knowledge transfer.

At IXA-GO, the knowledge transfer and grants office of VU Amsterdam, we support researchers to create impact with their research. Our team identifies funding opportunities, supports researchers to build a strong proposal and if relevant introduces them to the right network and consortia. If an innovation requires it, we also offer support in IP protection and provide guidance on the various valorisation routes and opportunities.

For our team, which is based at the dynamic VU Campus, we are looking for a Grant Advisor.

Location: AMSTERDAM/HYBRID
FTE: 0,8 - 1

As a Grant Advisor you are the first point of contact for researchers, especially regarding personal grants and consortium grants. You contribute to increasing the chances of success in acquiring (inter)national research grants. You will be part of the IXA-GO team consisting of among others Grant Advisors, Policy Advisors, Business Developers, IP specialists, and Project Managers. Our goal is to support researchers from acquiring external funding for their research up to translating the results of the research to the market and society.

You will…

  • Actively make available and disseminate relevant information about different types of research grants
  • Identify relevant grant opportunities together with researchers, research institutes and faculties and translate these into concrete initiatives for the researchers
  • Support in the review process of individual grants like the NWO VENI, VIDI, VICI and ERC applications as well as collaborative grants (national and European level)
  • Provide training and workshops to researchers with the aim of increasing the chance of success of proposals, raising awareness of the possibilities and requirements, and lowering the 'application threshold'
  • Coordinate the entire grant application process with all parties involved, including advising and supporting main applicants throughout the entire application process
  • Build and maintain a network of researchers, policy officers and other relevant support services.

Your profile

You…

  • Have a Master/PhD in a field linked to the profile themes of VU Amsterdam
  • Have a proven experience with the European Horizon framework programmes and the NWO grant programmes
  • Have several years of relevant working experience in grant advice and/or grant management of complex research projects
  • you are results-oriented, can maintain an overview and have an eye for the quality of content and process
  • Are hands-on, with a strong ability to take ownership of projects and see them through to completion
  • Are willing to learn and adapt to new situations, with a growth mindset and a desire to continue developing professionally
  • Are pro-active, entrepreneurial and you have a service mentality
  • Have an excellent knowledge of Dutch and English in writing in speech and writing.

What do we offer?

IXA-GO offers you a challenging position within a professional and motivated team for an initial period of 12 months with the possibility of an extension.

On full-time basis the remuneration amounts to a minimum gross monthly salary of €4,332 and a maximum of € 5.929 (scale 11), depending on your qualifications and experience. The job profile is based on the university ranking system (UFO) of Knowledge Valorisation Officer (3) and is open for at least 0,8 fte.

We also offer you attractive fringe benefits and regulations. Some examples:

  • 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus
  • hybrid working enables a good work-life balance
  • space for personal development
  • a wide range of sports facilities which staff may use at a modest charge

And most importantly, due to the very nature of your work, you are involved in many different research projects that help society move forwards, you will develop yourself at a phenomenal rate and strengthen your network.
