Are you a Mechanical Engineering student looking for a challenging graduation project? Do you want to turn a real engineering problem into a working, tested solution used in the field? We are looking for you!
Your assignment
In our latest high‑performance printing systems, paper is guided through the fixation module using a conveyor belt with tiny perforations. These holes create suction that keeps the paper perfectly in place. This vacuum is generated by the vacuum fan unit — a robust assembly containing two large fans and a valve box that regulates pressure. Today, several parts inside this unit need to be serviced during the lifetime of the machine. However, these parts are difficult for a service technician to access. Your challenge: design and realize a construction that allows a service technician to easily remove the vacuum fan unit from the fixation module, using only the limited tools they typically carry.
You will take an idea all the way to a functioning prototype. This includes gathering functional requirements, generating concepts, building 3D models, creating drawings, performing strength calculations, reviewing designs with specialists, ordering parts, assembling your solution, and validating it through testing. This assignment gives you an end-to-end experience of the full engineering cycle — a realistic preview of your future career as a mechanical engineer.
You will collaborate with various engineering disciplines and experience how different stakeholders influence the development process. The real challenge lies in creating a solution that is smart, robust, and simple enough for field service — a great opportunity to grow your technical and problem‑solving skills.
