Job Description

Supply Chain Engineer Inbound

Support the operational departments in developing, maintaining and improving our supply chain processes and set up supply chains for our newly developed products.

Canon Production Printing develops, produces, and distributes high-end printing systems. As Supply Chain Engineer, you operate in a global environment where you collaborate with interdisciplinary and cross-functional teams throughout the organization and the value chain. The Supply Chain Department within manufacturing is responsible for the development and improvement of lean supply chains to ensure timely availability of parts and components for our assembly operation. In this role, you will be instrumental in both the strategic design and the lean operational execution of our inbound supply chains.

To achieve this, your role will have two major areas of focus: operational excellence in maintaining robust inbound supply chains and strategic development for future optimization and efficiency. Your key responsibilities will include:

Operational Responsibilities:

  • Drive consistent parts availability through proactive supplier performance management and initiating structural continuous improvements that enable flow
  • Act as the primary escalation point and provide expert support to the material planner team by solving complex inbound issues at the root, preventing recurrence and ensuring supply continuity
  • Take ownership of resolving critical inbound supply disruptions, especially those related to supplier delivery challenges, by collaborating cross-functionally and eliminating obstacles to material flow
  • Initiate and drive interdisciplinary teams to conduct root cause analysis, develop effective solutions, and ensure supply continuity
  • Utilize lean methodologies such as Value Stream Mapping to identify waste and improve flow by reducing lead times and optimizing order quantities within the value stream, both internally and at suppliers

Strategic & Design Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with R&D, Industrial Engineering, Quality Assurance, and Procurement to strategically select suppliers for New Product Introductions
  • Define and implement lean supply setups for new parts, considering both long-term implications and immediate needs
  • Design the supply chain architecture for complex parts and products, encompassing inbound, warehousing, assembly, outbound, and network design, with a focus on strategic optimization and practical operational feasibility
  • As a key member of our Commodity Teams, you will collaborate closely with Procurement, Quality Assurance, and Research & Development to:
  • Define and execute long-term sourcing strategies
  • Evaluate the feasibility and impact of integrating new technologies within the supply chain
  • Proactively assess potential supply market risks and develop mitigation plans

Beyond your core responsibilities, you will demonstrate leadership by identifying process gaps and driving the implementation of solutions. You'll work across different organizational levels, collaborating closely with Suppliers, Planning, Procurement, Industrial Engineering, Quality, and R&D. Together with your colleagues, you'll contribute to a professional and effective SCM department.

Who you’ll work with

Within Manufacturing Machines, the Supply Chain Management department is crucial for the timely availability of parts through our suppliers (inbound), production planning, and ensuring the on-time delivery of our best-in-class high mix low volume products within the Canon organization, directly impacting our manufacturing efficiency and customer satisfaction. The Supply Chain group consists of 32 people, both engineers and planners.

What you bring

We're looking for a team member with proven analytical and problem-solving abilities who values hands-on engagement on the gemba to understand and improve operational environments. Your strong communication skills will facilitate collaboration and improvement initiatives. You can effectively balance strategic perspectives with operational realities, using operational insights to drive strategic advancements. Furthermore you recognize yourself in the following job requirements:

  • Bachelor degree in Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering or Business Administration
  • At least 5 years of experience in a similar role within a manufacturing organization
  • Experience with lean manufacturing, inbound planning and supplier management
  • Experience with New Product Introductions in a manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of SAP
  • Communication and presentation skills in English; profound knowledge of Dutch is an advantage
  • Willingness to travel to suppliers a few times per year

What you’ll get from us

  • A competitive salary (range €3.800 - €6.178 gross per month)
  • 38 vacation days
  • Extra 13th month pay (8,6%), holiday allowance (8%) and commuting allowance
  • Hybrid working for a healthy work-life balance
  • A huge range of training and professional development opportunities
  • A laptop and smartphone
  • An interesting lease (e-)bike plan

Career opportunities

From the position of Supply Chain Engineer you have a lot of career-opportunities. These can be within the department (for example work on improvement projects or grow towards New Product Introduction projects), but also outside of it, for example make a horizontal step to another Supply Chain department.
