Research technician (0.4-0.5 FTE) in the Grussmayer Lab at the Department of Bionanoscience

Job description

A part-time position (15,2 -19,0 hours) is available for a research technician in the research group of Kristin Grußmayer, Department of Bionanoscience, Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands. Start date as soon as possible.

The Grußmayer lab develops advanced 3D light microscopy methods to perform quantitative studies in live cells to answer fundamental questions in molecular and cell biology, for example to understand neurodegenerative diseases. We combine label-free and super-resolution fluorescence microscopy, a set of techniques that circumvent the optical diffraction limit by clever experimental strategies and sophisticated image reconstruction.

The successful candidate will be responsible for keeping all wet lab activities running smoothly, maintaining safety in the lab, and being in charge of mammalian cell culture activities.

This is a laboratory-based position and also involves coordinating documentation to support ongoing work in the QScope ERC starting grant project and in EVOLF. The successful candidate will be expected to support ongoing work, keep documentation organized, and train other scientists. Applicants must be collaborative, diligent, well organized, enjoy working on varying activities, and take pleasure in troubleshooting.

Main functions

  • Managing wet lab activities, including introduction of new group members, coordinating safety, ordering and inventory, and contact with the safety officers
  • Keeping well-documented records of the genetic resources available in the lab and tracking experiment documentation in electronic lab notebooks
  • Conducting and providing key support to cell culture and light microscopy experiments, for example optimizing immunostaining/labeling
  • Protein purification
  • Culturing of immortalized cell lines
  • Plasmid purification, cloning and optimization of transfection methods

Job requirements

Essential requirements

  • Experience with mammalian cell cultures
  • Experience with fluorescence microscopy
  • Demonstrated teamworking and troubleshooting skills
  • HBO/B.Sc. degree or similar
  • Proficiency in expressing yourself verbally and in writing in English

It is a plus if you fulfill one or more of the following

  • Knowledge of single-molecule, super-resolution or other advanced microscopy techniques
  • Familiarity with stable cell line generation
  • Familiarity with neurobiology/neurodegenerative disease
