How you can make a difference

As a Backend Engineer, you will help advance AH’s technology landscape into a modern, cutting-edge environment.

You will join the Promotions area in the Retail Business Platform execution cluster. Teams within this area are responsible for creating sales promotions and campaigns that are attractive and beneficial to Albert Heijn consumers, while ensuring 24/7 uptime on mission-critical environments. Your work will have a direct impact on the daily lives of customers.

This is how you will reinvent food retail.

• Help advance the current technology landscape by contributing to technical architecture, standards, and guidelines.
• Develop technical solutions in a modern, innovative technology foundation to scale the core business.
• Develop proofs of concept, build code, implement and execute automated testing, ensure security and code quality, and develop best practices.
• Share your expertise and contribute to initiatives within your product cluster and the broader AH Retail Technology Platform.
• Be a valued team member who contributes and removes obstacles.
• Share technical and process improvement ideas with colleagues in your team.

In this role, you are responsible for the applications and products developed by your product team.

Your team and office.

You will join the Retail Business Platform cluster, Promotions area, working closely with other DevOps engineers (frontend and backend) and the product owner. Our teams work in a hybrid way, both from home and from the office.

You will participate in creating technical design, developing technical solutions, deploying them, and maintaining them. You are expected to spend most of your time on hands-on delivery, pair programming, and code reviews. You will help ensure both technical quality and speed of delivery within the team’s Agile Scrum cadence. Dutch is not mandatory for this role.

The recipe for maximum impact.

• 8+ years of hands-on experience in the full software lifecycle development.
• 6+ years of experience with relevant technologies including Spring Boot, Java/Kotlin, GitHub Actions/Azure DevOps/Jenkins, KaaS/Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), MongoDB/Postgres DB (or another NoSQL DB), event streaming and messaging platforms such as Kafka, and Azure/AWS/GCP PaaS, with a critical eye on non-functional requirements such as scalability, maintainability, and security.
• Knowledge of GraphQL is a plus.
• Experience creating solution design, technical implementations, operations, business alignment, and prioritization together with the team.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in agile teams.
• Already located in the Netherlands.
