System Engineer Physical Security

As a System Engineer Physical Security, you'll work at the intersection of IT and Physical Security. Your work directly contributes to keeping our logistics operations running safely and reliably across warehouses and offices. From access control and video surveillance to integrations and automation, you'll help evolve one of the largest physical security technology landscapes in the Netherlands.

You'll join Tech Asset Protection, a team responsible for the technology behind bol's physical security capabilities, where we believe the best solutions emerge when engineering excellence, ownership, and collaboration come together.

The biggest challenge

Physical security is becoming increasingly digital. Our systems must be highly available, cyber secure, scalable, and compliant, while supporting a rapidly evolving logistics operation. At the same time, we are modernizing legacy integrations, introducing new technologies, improving security governance, and exploring innovations such as AI-powered video analytics.

You'll help us balance operational reliability with continuous improvement. One day you may be troubleshooting a critical incident, the next day you'll be designing a new Genetec integration, supporting a warehouse implementation, or driving architectural improvements together with internal and external stakeholders.

What you'll do as System Engineer Physical Security

You'll become one of the technical experts within our Tech Asset Protection team and take ownership of critical security technology platforms.

• Manage and continuously improve Genetec Security Center and related security platforms.
• Guarantee the reliability, performance and security of mission-critical physical security systems.
• Analyze and resolve complex technical incidents and service disruptions.
• Implement and support integrations between security platforms and enterprise systems, including APIs.
• Prepare, execute, and document changes through established change management and compliance processes.
• Drive projects involving new warehouse sites, infrastructure upgrades, migrations, and technology rollouts.
• Partner with vendors, integrators, and internal engineering teams to deliver robust solutions.
• Monitor platform health, maintain technical documentation such as architecture diagrams and procedures, and contribute to technology roadmaps.
• Share knowledge with teammates and raise the overall technical maturity of the team.

You are a Genetec & systems expert

• You bring several years of hands-on experience managing enterprise security systems, specifically Genetec Security Center, and working within Windows Server and IT infrastructure environments.

You excel in dynamic environments

• You enjoy taking ownership of complex technical changes, handling troubleshooting systematically, and working within established ITIL, change management, or compliance frameworks.

You are a natural collaborator

• You have strong stakeholder management skills, enjoy working closely with external suppliers and internal engineering teams, and are willing to participate in the on-call duty schedule.

You’ll fit less well if:

• You have little to no affinity for physical security hardware, access control systems, video management platforms, or working closely with local warehouse operations.
• You prefer to make quick, ad-hoc changes on the fly and find maintaining technical documentation, architecture diagrams, and formal change procedures tedious.
• Being part of an on-call rotation is a core responsibility of this role. If you are not comfortable supporting production systems outside regular office hours when needed, this role is not the right fit for you.

Where you'll be working

You'll be part of Tech Asset Protection, a team responsible for the technology behind bol's physical security landscape. Together, we ensure that access control, video surveillance, security integrations, and other critical security services operate reliably across all bol locations.

Your primary workplace will be our bol office in Waalwijk, where you'll work closely with Asset Protection specialists, Workplace Services, IT Security, suppliers, and fellow engineers. From supporting day-to-day operations to delivering strategic improvements, you'll play a key role in safeguarding the people, assets, and locations that keep bol running.
