Are you an organised professional who enjoys coordinating people, solving complex planning challenges and working in an international environment? Do you thrive when no two days are the same? Join Van Oord as a Crewing Officer and play a key role in ensuring our vessels are always staffed with the right people, at the right time.

The position

As a Crewing Officer within our Ship Management Department in Rotterdam, you are responsible for planning and coordinating the crew for our global fleet. From trailing suction hopper dredgers and cutter suction dredgers to offshore installation vessels and fall pipe vessels, our ships operate on projects across the world.

You ensure that every vessel is staffed efficiently while balancing operational requirements, crew availability and changing project demands. Working in a dynamic, project-driven environment, you keep the bigger picture in mind while managing the many details that make successful crew planning possible.

Your workplace

You will become part of the Crew team within the Ship Management Department. Together with more than 20 colleagues, you ensure that our vessels are staffed with qualified professionals across our worldwide operations.

The team is international, collaborative and committed to supporting both our business and our seafarers. You'll work closely with colleagues across departments while enjoying the variety and dynamics that come with a global maritime organisation.

Your impact

As the link between our vessels, crew members and internal stakeholders, you make sure our operations can continue safely and efficiently. You coordinate crew changes, respond quickly to unexpected situations and provide excellent support to our seafarers throughout their assignments.

In this role you will:

  • Plan and coordinate crew schedules for our fleet.
  • Maintain daily contact with our international crew members.
  • Resolve planning challenges caused by illness, schedule changes or operational demands.
  • Arrange travel, transfers and accommodation for crew changes worldwide.
  • Ensure accurate administration and communication using our crewing systems.
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues from Ship Management, Fleet Management and other departments.
  • Visit our vessels at home and abroad several times a year to stay connected with the operation.

Your ability to prioritise, stay organised and keep calm under pressure directly contributes to the success of our international projects.

About you

You are an organised and proactive professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced, international environment. You know how to keep overview when priorities shift and are comfortable making decisions under pressure. With your strong communication skills and service-oriented mindset, you build positive relationships with colleagues and crew members across different cultures.

You also bring:

  • A bachelor's degree or an equivalent HBO level of working and thinking.
  • Excellent command of the English language, both written and spoken.
  • Experience in a similar planning or crewing role, preferably within a project-driven or international organisation.
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills with an eye for detail.
  • The ability to prioritise, adapt quickly and keep multiple stakeholders informed.
  • A hands-on mentality and the drive to find practical solutions.

We offer

  • A competitive salary based on your experience and responsibilities.
  • Additional allowances for working on board or at project locations abroad.
  • Travel allowance (€0.31 per kilometre) and a home office allowance (€2.15 per day).
  • 32 annual leave days.
  • A variable bonus scheme.
  • A pension plan.
  • Optional collective health insurance.
  • A flexible hybrid working policy, with up to two home working days per week based on full-time employment.
  • Extensive learning and development opportunities, including access to GoodHabitz online courses.
  • Employee communities such as Young Van Oord, Van Oord Women and our staff association.
  • A wide range of social and sporting events, including winter sports trips, sailing weekends, cycling tours and motorcycle rides.

The vessels are state-of-the-art. You're always working on exciting projects, and on top of that, you're with a stable, reliable employer!
