Senior .NET/C# Engineer - Virtual Power Plant

De Virtual Power Plant (VPP) brengt gedistribueerde assets samen in één gecoördineerde pool, zodat ook kleine batterijen en zonnepanelen kunnen deelnemen aan de energiemarkt als onderdeel van Eneco's portfolio. Jouw werk helpt dit systeem betrouwbaar en schaalbaar te maken, zodat hernieuwbare energie op het juiste moment wordt ingezet. Je doet dit in een cross-functioneel team dat kennis deelt, samen leert en je ruimte geeft om te groeien.

• You build the systems that steer batteries, solar and other assets into Eneco's Virtual Power Plant.
• You own a business-critical system that runs 24/7 across multiple European markets.
• You work hybrid from Rotterdam with .NET/C#, Azure, Kafka and Terraform.

What you’ll do

• You build and maintain backend services and integrations in .NET/C#.
• You develop solutions that optimise behind-the-meter assets: large batteries, rooftop solar and other installations on the customer side.
• You connect data flows so smaller assets can join the energy market as part of Eneco's pool.
• You share on-call duty for a system that runs 24/7 in live energy markets.
• You drive Proof of Concepts and partner with architects on system design.
• You mentor medior and junior engineers through code reviews and technical guidance.

Is this about you?

• You have around 7 years of backend experience with .NET/C# and have built complex distributed systems.
• You've designed, owned and evolved high-availability production systems at scale, ideally in real-time or data-intensive domains.
• You're at home with event-driven architecture and async messaging (Kafka, Azure Event Hubs or RabbitMQ).
• You know your way around Azure, CI/CD, containers (Docker/Kubernetes) and microservices, and you're comfortable with relational and non-relational data.
• You're happy taking on-call responsibility in a 24/7 environment, and you enjoy leading cross-functional technical discussions.
• You're based in the Netherlands and fluent in English.
• Knowledge of energy markets, optimisation systems or aggregation platforms is a real plus, but you can also grow into the domain here.

You’ll be responsible for

• Reliable, scalable backend services that connect distributed assets to our VPP and keep running 24/7.
• Solutions that optimise behind-the-meter assets and bring smaller assets into the market as one portfolio.
• Technical ownership of components and the architectural decisions around them.
• Healthy engineering practice: you tackle technical debt, performance bottlenecks and reliability risks before they bite.
• A stronger team: you lift others through reviews, mentoring and shared standards.

This is where you’ll work

You join the BtM (Behind The Meter) B2B and Aggregation team in Rotterdam, working closely with other cross-functional product teams. The team owns two products: a scalable solution that optimises energy flexibility for B2B customers across countries, and the aggregation layer that pools those assets into the Virtual Power Plant. You'll collaborate daily with other .NET developers, testers, product managers and architects, with the freedom to bring in your own ideas and the ownership to see them through.
