The force behind consistent, scalable data product foundations

How do you make our customers happy?

Customer experiences, analytics, and AI-driven decisions are only as strong as the data products behind them. As a Data Management Specialist, you don’t just safeguard data, you design the foundations that make data valuable at scale. You create the standards, frameworks, and operating models that allow teams across bol to build high-quality, reusable, and trustworthy data products.

You enable a world where teams can independently innovate with data, while staying aligned on quality, definitions, and governance. Not by adding process, but by designing clarity, automation, and consistency into the system.

The biggest challenge

Bol is transitioning from fragmented, manual governance to Data Product Governance – a model where governance is embedded, automated, and scalable. The challenge is not to control data, but to enable data products to scale across domains without losing consistency or trust.

You will:

  • Define standards that work across very different domains and use cases
  • Balance autonomy for domains with enterprise-wide consistency
  • Translate complex governance needs into practical, automatable solutions
  • Shape how governance supports analytics and AI at scale

This is a role where you design the system others depend on and where your decisions directly impact how data is used across the company.

What you’ll do as a Data Management Specialist

You operate at the center of Data Product Management & Governance, where you define how data products are governed and scaled across bol. You design the standards, frameworks, and operating model that enable domain teams to create high-quality, reusable, and trustworthy data products in a consistent and scalable way.

  • Define and maintain enterprise standards for data quality, metadata, lineage, naming, and data contracts
  • Own the KPI definition standard and cross-domain harmonization framework to ensure consistent definitions
  • Design and evolve the Data Product Governance Operating Model, including lifecycle governance gates and control frameworks
  • Define requirements for automated data governance, cataloging, and data quality controls in collaboration with platform teams
  • Ensure enterprise-wide consistency across data products and domains, resolving semantic conflicts and governance gaps
  • Enable adoption through playbooks, templates, training, and support for Data Stewards and product teams
  • Facilitate cross-domain alignment on metrics, concepts, and standards, acting as a central expert and connecting teams across the organization
  • Closely work together with the Data Platform team for (automated) governance solutions

Why you can make a difference

With 5+ years of experience in data governance, you bring the depth needed to design scalable, sustainable approaches for complex governance requirements. And the pragmatism to make them work in reality. You ‘talk data’ and inspire stakeholders to adopt data management. You understand that defining standards is only the starting point. The real challenge is making them work across teams, domains, and use cases. You’re comfortable operating in an environment where not everything is fully defined yet. Instead of waiting for clarity, you create it. Knowledge of DAMA principles and CDMP certification, or willingness to obtain it, is a must-have and the foundation for success in this role.

3 reasons why this is (not) for you

Pros

  • System designer: You enjoy designing frameworks, standards, and operating models that don’t just work in theory, but scale across teams and domains. You think in systems, not one-off solutions, and get energy from building something that others can rely on and reuse.
  • Clarity creator: You bring structure to ambiguity and help teams navigate complexity with confidence. You align stakeholders around shared definitions and principles, translating abstract concepts into clear, actionable agreements that actually stick.
  • Enabler of value: You see governance as a means to an end, not the goal itself. You design standards and frameworks that help teams make better decisions, build better products, and unlock real value from data and AI.

Cons

  • Complexity amplifier: Your communication style turns simple concepts into something far more complicated than it needs to be. You struggle to translate your thinking into clear, practical guidance, making it harder for teams to adopt and apply your work.
  • Manual worker: You focus on fixing individual issues or executing manual processes, rather than stepping back to design solutions that scale. You’re less comfortable turning recurring problems into automated, structural improvements.
  • Perpetual planner: You’re most comfortable staying in concepts, frameworks, and plans, but struggle to bring them into practice, drive adoption, and make them work across real teams and use cases.

Here's where you'll land

You’ll join the Data Products Management & Governance team within bol’s Data, Analytics & AI department, reporting to the Manager Data Product Governance & Stewardship. You’ll collaborate daily with Data Product Managers, Data Engineers, Product Analysts, Data Scientists, and Data Management Specialists. Your work sits at the intersection of business knowledge, engineering, and governance. It is also essential to bol’s transition toward data product thinking. With 13.7 million customers and an accelerating AI agenda, the quality and trustworthiness of bol’s data products isn’t a nice-to-have. It’s the foundation everything else is built on. You’ll help make that foundation rock solid.
