About this position

As a Consultant Computer Vision within the Intelligent Imaging research group, you build and maintain relationships with our key stakeholders in the security and defense domain. You are a welcome presence on our clients’ premises, and through this, you translate the opportunities you identify into projects together with our Business Developers and Scientists. In this way, you connect the client to TNO’s technology. You contribute to the development of ecosystems consisting of knowledge partners, industry, and government, aimed at strategic and long-term collaboration. You also help shape the projects within these ecosystems and explore how they can be funded. You actively participate in these projects yourself, which are partly focused on research and the development of new, innovative knowledge and technologies, and partly on short-cycle application of knowledge with clients from business, industry, and government. From time to time, you will also lead projects yourself.

The Intelligent Imaging expertise group is a young, passionate, creative, and committed team of professionals (55+ people) specializing in the development of groundbreaking applications in the field of computer vision. Our team members come from diverse backgrounds, ranging from physics to artificial intelligence. Intelligent Imaging is a young and growing department where, over the past years, we have built extensive expertise in AI and deep learning. In both small and large projects, you will collaborate with colleagues from other expertise groups, within and beyond the defense domain. We provide a strong onboarding program and actively look for where your talents can best contribute within the group.

At TNO, we work in a close-knit team of professionals within an open and informal culture, across various domains, contributing to a safer world.

What will be your role?

As a Consultant Computer Vision within the Intelligent Imaging research group, you build and maintain relationships with our key stakeholders in the security and defense domain. You are a welcome presence on our clients’ premises, and through this, you translate the opportunities you identify into projects together with our Business Developers and Scientists. In this way, you connect the client to TNO’s technology. You contribute to the development of ecosystems consisting of knowledge partners, industry, and government, aimed at strategic and long-term collaboration. You also help shape the projects within these ecosystems and explore how they can be funded. From time to time, you will also lead projects yourself.

What we expect from you

As a consultant, you are able to turn resistance into opportunities by translating client challenges into innovative solutions. You are entrepreneurial, results-driven, perceptive, and a strong connector, and you are motivated to further develop these skills. Combined with strong advisory abilities, this makes you a valuable sparring partner within your network. You have experience leading projects and/or teams, or you are eager to develop this capability.

What you also bring:

  • A completed degree in Computer Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, or a comparable field, with a proven affinity for computer vision and deep learning.
  • At least ten years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with Python, MATLAB, and/or C++; you have a pragmatic mindset and a strong drive to make things work.
  • Domain knowledge of the defense and robotics sector, along with a broad network and work experience with relevant stakeholders such as the police, defense organizations, DJI, or the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee (KMAR), is a strong plus.
  • Excellent command of both Dutch and English.

What you'll get in return

Challenging and varied work with a real impact. And plenty of opportunities as, at TNO, you are in charge of shaping your career. We offer a gross monthly salary between € 5,900 and € 7,600 (based on your knowledge and experience), 8% holiday pay, a 13th month bonus of 8.33% and a flex budget (5.58% + € 180). In addition, you will be given every opportunity to develop yourself.

  • An extremely professional, innovative working environment where colleagues are leading experts in their field.
  • The opportunity to attend courses, workshops and conferences, and to receive training and coaching based on your needs.
  • 33 days annual leave plus a flexible holiday that can be used on a cultural, religious, or otherwise important day of your choosing (on a full-time basis).
  • Flexible working hours, the possibility to work parttime (32 or 36 hours) and the possibility of working from home.
  • A good pension scheme.

TNO as an employer

Our people are at the heart of TNO. Their curiosity, expertise and entrepreneurial mindset make it possible to deliver high-impact research and innovations that contribute to society’s sustainable wellbeing and prosperity. That is why we invest in an inspiring working environment where colleagues can excel, have autonomy and continue to grow.

Your talent and ambition have every opportunity to flourish at TNO. You work with experts (both within and beyond TNO), have access to advanced technology and the freedom to explore, experiment and innovate. Our strength lies in independence, reliability and collaboration. We find each other in wonder and ingenuity. We are driven to push boundaries. By working with businesses and government, and by connecting different perspectives, we strengthen our innovative capability and create responsible, meaningful results.

As you will be working for clients in the domain of defence and security, a Certificate of No Objection issued by AIVD (the Dutch General Intelligence and Security Service) is mandatory. This means you will have to undergo a security screening.

Innovation with purpose: that is what TNO stands for. We develop knowledge not for its own sake, but for practical application. TNO connects people and knowledge to create innovations that boost the competitive strength of industry and the well-being of society in a sustainable way.
