In addition, you carry out projects in which this knowledge is directly applied for clients from industry, the private sector, and government.

As a project manager, you lead multidisciplinary teams. Together with your team, you develop the project vision and shape its execution. You maintain close contact with clients, represent their interests, and, in collaboration with our business developers, work on building strong and lasting client relationships.

The Intelligent Imaging expertise group is a young, passionate, creative, and committed team of professionals (55+ people) specialized in developing groundbreaking computer vision applications. Our people come from diverse backgrounds, ranging from physics to artificial intelligence. Intelligent Imaging is a young and growing department in which we have built up substantial expertise in AI and deep learning in recent years.

In both small and large projects, you collaborate with colleagues from other expertise groups, within and beyond the defense domain. We provide a strong onboarding program and actively look at how your talents can best be utilized within the team.

At TNO, we work in a close-knit team of professionals within an open and informal culture, across a wide range of domains, contributing to a safer world.

What will be your role?

As a Project Manager Computer Vision within the Intelligent Imaging research group, you lead a variety of projects. Some of these projects focus on research and the development of new knowledge and technologies. In addition, you carry out projects in which this knowledge is directly applied for clients from industry, the private sector, and government.

As a project manager, you lead multidisciplinary teams. Together with your team, you develop the project vision and shape its execution. You plan and coordinate the work in consultation with your team members and their line managers. You ensure a positive team atmosphere and contribute to the personal development of your colleagues. You maintain close contact with clients, represent their interests, and, in collaboration with our business developers, work on building strong and lasting client relationships.

What we expect from you

You are flexible, collaborative, results-oriented, and sensitive to organizational dynamics. You work well in a team and are able to communicate clearly with colleagues. You possess strong advisory and communication skills when presenting results to clients. You are therefore able to translate complex technical content into practical applications in clear, accessible language.

In addition, you are client-focused and decisive, working effectively with your team toward a result that is usable and applicable for our clients. You enjoy coaching and mentoring colleagues, helping them grow both personally and professionally. You are self-directed and capable of providing substantive leadership to the project team.

What you also bring:

  • A completed academic degree (MSc or PhD) in computer science, physics, mathematics, electrical engineering, or artificial intelligence and affinity with computer vision and deep learning.
  • At least ten years of relevant work experience as a project manager.
  • Knowledge of the defense, security, and robotics domain, as well as a strong network and experience working with relevant stakeholders (e.g., the Ministry of Defence, police, DJI, or Royal Netherlands Marechaussee) is a plus.
  • Fluency in both Dutch and English, spoken and written.

What you'll get in return

Challenging and varied work with a real impact. And plenty of opportunities as, at TNO, you are in charge of shaping your career. We offer a gross monthly salary between € 5,900 and € 7,600 (based on your knowledge and experience), 8% holiday pay, a 13th month bonus of 8.33% and a flex budget (5.58% + € 180). In addition, you will be given every opportunity to develop yourself.

TNO offers optional employee benefits, enabling you to tailor your benefits package to match your personal situation. You may also expect:

  • An extremely professional, innovative working environment where colleagues are leading experts in their field.
  • The opportunity to attend courses, workshops and conferences, and to receive training and coaching based on your needs.
  • 33 days annual leave plus a flexible holiday that can be used on a cultural, religious, or otherwise important day of your choosing (on a full-time basis).
  • We offer a comprehensive and flexible mobility plan that also includes full compensation for public transportation for commuting and business travel.
  • Great social events with your team and other TNO colleagues. That’s how you will get to know a lot of people really quickly.
  • Flexible working hours, the possibility to work parttime (32 or 36 hours) and the possibility of working from home.
  • Extensive relocation package for international candidates.
  • A good pension scheme.

TNO as an employer

Our people are at the heart of TNO. Their curiosity, expertise and entrepreneurial mindset make it possible to deliver high-impact research and innovations that contribute to society’s sustainable wellbeing and prosperity. That is why we invest in an inspiring working environment where colleagues can excel, have autonomy and continue to grow.

Your talent and ambition have every opportunity to flourish at TNO. You work with experts (both within and beyond TNO), have access to advanced technology and the freedom to explore, experiment and innovate. Our strength lies in independence, reliability and collaboration. By working with businesses and government, and by connecting different perspectives, we strengthen our innovative capability and create responsible, meaningful results.

As you will be working for clients in the domain of defence and security, a Certificate of No Objection issued by AIVD (the Dutch General Intelligence and Security Service) is mandatory. This means you will have to undergo a security screening.

Innovation with purpose: that is what TNO stands for. We develop knowledge not for its own sake, but for practical application. TNO connects people and knowledge to create innovations that boost the competitive strength of industry and the well-being of society in a sustainable way.
