What are you going to do?

“Work on RF and RFID hardware used in stores worldwide. From antenna design and PCB layout to measurement, compliance and production: you make sure our hardware performs reliably in practice.”

At Nedap Retail, we build technology that helps retailers operate smarter. Using RFID technology, we create solutions for loss prevention, self-checkout, and real-time inventory visibility that need to perform exactly as promised in busy retail environments.

As an RF Engineer, you will work on products that help retailers maintain control over inventory, security, and store operations. This requires RF hardware that is precise enough for the application, robust enough for the shop floor, and scalable enough for global deployment. You will design and improve readers, antennas, UHF/RFID circuits, PCB layouts, and signal performance. Not from the sidelines, but throughout the entire development process: from defining the technical direction to prototyping, testing, certification, and production.

We are looking for someone who understands RF technology and stays practical. Someone who measures, asks the right questions, supports decisions with evidence and takes ownership in a compact hardware team.

Your responsibilities

  • Design schematics and PCB layouts for new hardware developments.
  • Develop new hardware solutions using state-of-the-art RFID technology, advanced processing platforms, and signal processing techniques.
  • Collaborate within a multidisciplinary R&D team to translate customer needs into scalable and future-proof products.

Your team

You will join the hardware team within Nedap Retail, working alongside electronics, mechanical, and RF engineers. The team is part of the Devices team within R&D, together with firmware and product engineering. Collaboration with firmware engineers is intensive, as together you build products that need to perform reliably in retail environments.

The hardware team is compact, which means your contribution is immediately visible. You will have the freedom to make technical decisions, introduce your own ideas, and take ownership of your work. You will also collaborate closely with product management, product compliance, procurement, and production partners, including our EMS and prototyping partners.

What's in it for you?

We believe our people perform at their best in an environment that both supports and challenges them. That’s why we make sure you have everything you need to succeed in your role. In addition to strong employment conditions, we offer you the freedom to organize your time in a way that works best for you.

At the same time, we are a forward-thinking organization that continuously innovates. You’ll have the opportunity to grow alongside new developments and technologies, and to keep developing yourself in an environment that embraces change.

  • Holiday allowance (8%), a 13th month, an annual bonus, dividends, stock options, and an attractive pension scheme.
  • A good work / life balance; you decide when you work and when you need a break. At Nedap we will not keep track of your holidays.
  • A key role in enabling successful global retail technology deployments, while you work at the core of our solution.
  • Technical challenges in a product-driven environment where designing, testing, and improving are closely connected.
  • Investment in your development through an extensive onboarding program and a personal development process to assess your potential together and explore ways to get the most out of it.

Required skills

You are analytical, technically curious and practical in your approach. You do not need to have seen everything already, but you do need a solid RF foundation. In this team, it helps if you are visible: you ask questions, share your judgement and step forward when something can be improved.

  • Relevant knowledge or experience in RF design and implementation, preferably within UHF/RFID electronics.
  • Ability to create electronic schematics and design or review PCB layouts for RF applications.
  • Understanding of EMC phenomena and the ability to translate compliance requirements into product design and testing strategies.
  • Strong communication skills in English. Dutch is a plus.
  • Experience with Altium is preferred.
  • Experience with antenna design, simulation, or RF measurements is a strong advantage.

Good to know

Hybrid working is common at Nedap, and together with your team you organize your own schedule to maintain a healthy work-life balance. Ideally, you are present on our campus in Groenlo at least two days per week.
