About the assignment

This internship/graduation assignment focuses on closed loop UGV control.

Demcon Defense & Security Systems is developing navigation algorithms for Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGVs) in various projects. In the current situation, velocities generated by the navigation algorithms are converted using a simplified model and executed open-loop by the UGV actuators. While often good enough, situations in rough off-road terrain have been encountered where this is no longer sufficient and more advanced control algorithms are desired. Your assignment would be to design and implement a closed loop controller using the onboard sensors. Preferably this solution will generalize to multiple types of UGVs, for example different motion-bases.

This assignment would consist of doing literature research, picking or designing one controller and testing this controller in simulation. Depending on robot availability, this controller may also be tested on real UGVs. Depending on your background and educational requirements, the assignment can be adapted to a graduation assignment or into an internship.
