Join our Format & Design team to shape award-winning store experiences worldwide and drive consistent customer journeys while we globally expand.

As a Sustainability Manager – Store Development, you will lead the sustainability agenda for materials, design and construction choices within our global Format & Design team initiatives and help translate Rituals’ Net Zero ambitions into practical decisions across concepts, materials and execution. In this role, you will be part of Format & Design, the ESG Team, and Impact Team.

From early design intent through to supplier selection, prototyping, rollout and in-store improvements, you ensure sustainability is embedded across the full project lifecycle. You will act as the subject matter expert on sustainable materials, circular design principles and responsible construction choices for retail environments.

You bring structure to a broad and evolving agenda by setting clear priorities, frameworks, and measurable targets that help teams make better decisions. By combining strong materials expertise with a hands-on project management approach, you turn long-term ambitions into concrete roadmaps, standards and actions. You guide stakeholders through trade-offs with clarity and care, always balancing sustainability, brand experience, quality, safety, timing and cost. In doing so, you help us build retail environments that are more circular, responsible, and future-ready.

In this role, you will:

  • Translate Rituals' overall sustainability ambitions into a clear and actionable roadmap for Format & Design, with defined priorities, measurable targets and practical steps for implementation.
  • Act as the subject matter expert for sustainable materials, sustainable construction and circular design within Format & Design and the Technical Design team.
  • Develop and maintain sustainability guidelines, design standards and material roadmaps focused on circularity, durability, repairability, recyclability and responsible sourcing.
  • Own and continuously improve the materials database, ensuring clear material standards, documentation, approved alternatives and transparency on environmental performance.
  • Advise and support teams in selecting lower-impact material alternatives that balance environmental performance, quality, cost, availability and brand fit.
  • Partner with Construction, Maintenance, Procurement, Studio, PM, Technical Design, the Impact Team and suppliers to improve lifecycle performance, material transparency and environmental impact.
  • Drive sustainability integration across the full project lifecycle, from early design development through supplier selection, prototyping, rollout and in-store improvements.
  • Define, track and report on sustainability KPIs and documentation requirements (CSRD, B-Corp), using agreed tools (e.g. SWEEP, Track Online), translate data into clear insights and actions, and drive corrective measures or escalations where needed.
  • Build sustainability awareness and provide training across Format & Design teams and key partners.

Bring all of you

In this role, we are looking for someone who combines deep materials expertise with a strong project and stakeholder management mindset. You know how to connect sustainability ambitions to practical design, construction and execution choices, and you feel comfortable working across multiple teams and external partners in an international environment. You bring a solid understanding of sustainable materials, circular design, life cycle assessment, responsible sourcing and retail construction or built-environment design.

You are analytical, structured, and solution-oriented, and you know how to keep progress moving in a complex setting with many priorities. Just as importantly, you communicate clearly, build trust naturally, and enjoy helping others grow their understanding of sustainability in everyday work.

To be successful in this role, you:

  • Have 8-10 years of relevant experience in sustainable materials, sustainable construction, architecture, interior architecture, spatial design, or built-environment sustainability.
  • Bring deep expertise in materials and understand how to apply this in design, construction and retail environments.
  • Have hands-on experience with circular design, lifecycle thinking, material sourcing, and material performance.
  • Are able to act as the specialist partner for Technical Design and guide material choices across projects.
  • Have experience building or managing material standards, libraries or databases.
  • Combine technical depth with strong project and stakeholder management.
  • Communicate clearly and can influence design, procurement, construction and supplier partners in an international environment.
