Software Engineer (AI Development)

The DevAI team is looking for a mid-level Software Engineer who is passionate about AI-assisted development and wants to help other engineers at Albert Heijn adopt new ways of working.

We are a small team of six, and you will join as a core member. Our mission is to accelerate adoption of AI-assisted development and help teams move from legacy systems to modern, scalable tech stacks by embedding AI into everyday workflows.

This role combines strong software engineering skills with an interest in developer enablement, experimentation, and cross-team collaboration.

Rather than building product features, this role focuses on improving how engineering teams build and deliver software.

Our work is inherently dynamic. Priorities evolve quickly as we learn, and we regularly adjust direction based on new insights. You should be comfortable operating in an environment with ambiguity, frequent change, and short feedback loops.

At the same time, we value focus and clarity - ensuring that when we commit to a direction, we drive it with intent and follow through.

• Evaluate emerging AI tools and development workflows and share practical learnings across teams
• Contribute to enablement initiatives such as guides, trainings, workshops, hackathons
• Support migrations from legacy systems to modern tech stack by defining best practices and scaling to more teams
• Engage in activities that will improve software development processes in general

What we are looking for:

Fundamentals

• 8+ years of work experience as a Software Engineer
• Strong coding skills, with a keen ability to distinguish high-quality, maintainable code from poor implementations
• Strong hands-on experience using AI coding tools in day-to-day development
• Curiosity and interest in experimenting with new tools and ways of working
• Comfortable in rapidly changing, ambiguous environments

Collaboration and Enablement

• Experience working in collaborative development environments
• Comfortable helping other engineers improve their workflows
• Able to guide technical discussions and provide constructive feedback
• Able to work constructively with teams that may be skeptical about new tooling

Nice to have

• Experience in coaching others
• Experience contributing to training, documentation, or internal enablement
• Interest beyond coding, such as QA, developer experience, product and business context, development tooling and workflows
