The Market Intelligence Specialist is part of the Sales Planning & Market Intelligence (SP&MI) team, which supports strategic and tactical commercial decision-making within Robeco and evaluates commercial performance using both internal commercial data and external market data. The Rotterdam-based team consists of 7 people, including the Manager SP&MI, who reports to the Robeco Executive Committee member responsible for Global Sales & Marketing. The team works closely with Sales, Marketing, Product Management, and the Strategic Business Development teams within Robeco.

The Market Intelligence Specialist is part of the Sales Planning & Market Intelligence (SP&MI) team which supports strategic and tactical commercial decision making within Robeco and evaluation of commercial performance using both internal commercial data and external market data.

Purpose of the role

  • Further develop and maintain a framework of internal and external data sources (data sets, research tools and research reports), increasingly using AI-enabled analytics to enable the SP&MI team to identify market trends and answer market intelligence requests related to industry trends, market sizing and flows, product innovation, distribution channels, pricing and competition.
  • Work closely with other team members to further develop the service model of market intelligence, aligning available scarce resources (fte, budget) with an ever-increasing intelligence demand and increasing amount of data sources, including traditional market data and alternative data sources.
  • Equip the Robeco Sales teams and Product Management with valuable market, customer and competition data insights and signals, both asked and unasked.

Key responsibilities

  • Further develop and maintain existing market intelligence publications used to provide Robeco with a constant heartbeat of market information.
  • Pro-actively scan for market trends and developments, growth and (cross) selling opportunities with relevance for Robeco’s commercial strategy.
  • Leverage AI tools, data science techniques and advanced analytics to enhance generation of commercial insights.
  • Build and maintain data models and dashboards integrating CRM, external data sources, and market intelligence feeds.
  • Employ initiatives and projects independently and with other team members in further developing a scalable market intelligence framework combining human expertise with AI augmentation.
  • Translate insights into clear, concise, sales- and product-management-friendly messaging and produce executive-level summaries and presentations.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in business administration, economics, finance, information management or an equivalent qualification.
  • At least 3-5 years of relevant working experience within the asset management industry, with relevant knowledge of wholesale and institutional business.
  • Experience in working with large volumes of data and applying data analytics and data science concepts to manage the increasing volume of structured and unstructured data.
  • A data-driven, user-centred design approach to analysis and data management, with demonstrated ability to deliver information that addresses and anticipates various stakeholder users’ needs.
  • A critical, independent thinker, able to read into the data and connect the dots using strong data analytics skills.
  • Mastery of standard IT tools, including advanced Excel skills in an office environment.
  • Proactive, curious and digitally savvy, embracing AI and new technologies.
  • Knowledge of BI tooling (Qlik Sense) and CRM tooling (MS Dynamics) is a strong plus.
  • Experience with market research tools such as Broadridge, Morningstar, Mandatewire and eVestment is a plus, but willingness to master these tools is a hard requirement.
  • Experience or strong affinity with automation, scripting or AI-driven analytics (for example Python, SQL or similar) to scale insight generation is a plus for the future.
  • Fast learner and effective communicator of new or complex information.
  • Ability to translate technical business acumen into easily understood messaging for a wide range of audiences.
