Overview

Our Ministry of Defence (MoD) team in Arnhem is looking for a strong and motivated Project Manager/Case Owner with expertise in Lightning Protection. You will be actively involved in both the execution and management of projects (cases) DNV performs for the Ministry as part of the Lightning Protection Safety research program for their ammunition buildings. In this role, you will work closely together with the DNV research program manager, DNV project members, and people from TNO, our consortium partner in the research program.

The purpose of the role of Project Manager/Case Owner is to support the MoD in realizing their goals and ambitions regarding compliance with lightning protection standards for their ammunition buildings. You will work in a team of technical experts focusing on performing on-site measurements, creating and validating models, simulating lightning strikes, analyzing electromagnetic fields, reporting, and assessing risk mitigation options.

We are looking for candidates with an Electrotechnical or Physics background, an engineering mindset, and experience or affinity with:

  • Lightning protection, electromagnetic fields, earthing, shielding, EMC, and field measurements
  • Safety

  • Acting as a knowledge field expert with project management skills

To strengthen the research project team, we are looking for a senior expert/consultant who will be part of a customer-centric team and will actively work on managing and executing research cases within this program.

Your tasks and responsibilities will be to:

  • Have full responsibility as project manager/case owner for one or several cases in the Lightning Protection Safety research program.
  • Deliver cases within the program on time, within budget, and to the required quality.
  • Design and execute safe and valid measurements and tests needed for the determination of electromagnetic fields.
  • Contribute to clear and high-quality customer interactions, presentations, and reports.
  • Lead DNV colleagues, for example by guiding CDEGS modellers, and work together with contractors and partners.
  • Support and develop younger colleagues and help grow the project team.
  • Build and maintain a network within the Defence and Security sector.

About you

Education:

  • TU Electrotechnical/Physics (MSc or PhD) background and level of thinking, either through education or experience.
  • A few years of relevant working experience in lightning protection, electromagnetic fields, and/or earthing.

Key skills required:

  • Experience in the fields of lightning protection, electromagnetic fields, earthing, shielding, and EMC.
  • High level of abstract and conceptual thinking; enjoys challenges and stepping into uncharted territories.
  • Experience in leading and guiding people in on-site measurements.
  • Ability to handle complex technical problems and deal with multiple parties with conflicting interests.
  • Relevant experience in successfully organizing and executing advisory projects.
  • Ability to build and maintain strategic relationships with operational and mid/higher management.
  • Affinity with the Defence and Security sector.
  • Ability to engage at executive level with relevant Ministry of Defence stakeholders and subcontractors, DNV experts, and business partners.
  • Confident, able to get your view across, and willing to participate in training and mentoring junior staff.
  • Effective writing and communication skills in both Dutch and English.
