Bachelor Graduation Assignment: Evaluate possible applications for ModeFrontier in PACCAR

Binnen de afdeling CAE-engines werk je aan het verkennen van de functies van modeFrontier en het voorstellen van toepassingen binnen de workflows van DAF engine development. We are looking for a bright and curious student willing to explore the functions of modeFrontier and suggest applications within the workflows of DAF engine development.

Functiebeschrijving

The CAE-engines department is responsible for creation and validation of models that can describe and predict the behaviour of new and current engines. Due to increasing emissions requirements, modern diesel engines have become complex systems. These emission legislations create the need to add additional sub-systems to the base engine. All of these systems and sub-systems, including pipes, lines and wiring, need to be mounted to the base engine, often using brackets or studs. To ensure the lifetime performance of the engine, all these systems and subsystems need to be checked on their endurance life.

Translating and transferring data from one software environment to another is very common during the analysis stage of an engine development project. For instance, a linear dynamic model to study engine vibrations often derives force input from a dynamic simulation translated to frequency space via FFTs. modeFrontier presents a candidate software platform for such data transfers and workflow automations.

The challenge is to identify relevant workflows with the help of a support engineer or supervisor at DAF in the context of structural FEA, dynamics and CFD. The student should feel free to set up discussions and interviews to gain a deeper understanding of the workflows. A working example of an automated process will be appreciated at the end.

We are looking for an enthousiastic Masters or Bachelors student from Information Science with an interest in Engineering.

Afdeling

Within PACCAR Inc., Global Powertrain is the centre of competence for PACCAR engine development. In our state-of-the-art engine development centre we develop engine families for future regulations.

The Engineering department is responsible for the development of new engine hardware concepts and maintaining the in-production engine families. The department is divided into several hardware groups and a CAE group for analysis support. For the CAE group we have an open position for a bachelor graduate student.
