Do you want to work on technology that truly matters? At TNO, we use our in-depth knowledge of radar technology to develop new concepts aimed at minimizing the visibility of our defence colleagues to radar systems. In this role, you will carry out measurements and act as the bridge between innovative ideas and practical reality. This makes your work not only technologically challenging, but also socially relevant.
In this role, you will be hands-on from day one, working on radar signature and radar verification measurements in our anechoic research facilities. You will work for both external clients and internal scientists who want to validate new concepts in practice.
Together with them, you will develop measurement plans and actively contribute ideas about the measurement setup. Where necessary, you will adjust these in collaboration with the mechanical workshop. After performing the measurements, you will analyze and report the results and discuss them with your stakeholders. Based on your expertise, you will advise on the interpretation of the measurement results and possible next steps.
In addition to measurements in the anechoic research facilities, you will regularly be involved in outdoor measurement campaigns. You will manage the measurement equipment and facilities and, together with your colleagues in the metrology team, act as the point of contact for radar measurements within TNO. Through this close collaboration, you directly contribute to concrete defense applications that truly matter.
What we expect from you
Technical background
You hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or Mechatronics. In addition, you have experience with automation and programming languages such as LabVIEW, MATLAB, and Python. Finally, you have experience with RF measurement equipment such as network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and amplifiers. Relevant work experience within the RF domain is a plus.
Skills and mindset
You are a natural researcher who enjoys understanding how technology truly works. With your technical insight, you can quickly adapt and improvise when needed. You work patiently, accurately, and in a structured way, and you communicate easily with colleagues and clients from different domains. Moreover, you are open to new knowledge and feedback, allowing you to continuously grow in your field.
Work environment
You will work in an environment where technology directly contributes to national security and feel comfortable operating within the defense domain. For effective collaboration, you are present on-site in The Hague at least four days per week, and you have a strong command of both Dutch and English, spoken and written.
What you'll get in return
Challenging and varied work with a real impact. And plenty of opportunities as, at TNO, you are in charge of shaping your career. We offer a gross monthly salary between € 3.250 and € 5.200 (based on your knowledge and experience), 8% holiday pay, a 13th month bonus of 8.33% and a flex budget (5.58% + € 180). In addition, you will be given every opportunity to develop yourself.
TNO as an employer
Our people are at the heart of TNO. Their curiosity, expertise and entrepreneurial mindset make it possible to deliver high-impact research and innovations that contribute to society’s sustainable wellbeing and prosperity. That is why we invest in an inspiring working environment where colleagues can excel, have autonomy and continue to grow.
Your talent and ambition have every opportunity to flourish at TNO. You work with experts (both within and beyond TNO), have access to advanced technology and the freedom to explore, experiment and innovate. Our strength lies in independence, reliability and collaboration. We are driven to push boundaries. By working with businesses and government, and by connecting different perspectives, we strengthen our innovative capability and create responsible, meaningful results.
As you will be working for clients in the domain of defence and security, a Certificate of No Objection issued by AIVD (the Dutch General Intelligence and Security Service) is mandatory. This means you will have to undergo a security screening.
Innovation with purpose: that is what TNO stands for. We develop knowledge not for its own sake, but for practical application. TNO connects people and knowledge to create innovations that boost the competitive strength of industry and the well-being of society in a sustainable way.
