Backend Developer

What are you going to do?

As a Backend Developer at Nedap, you will work at the core of digital solutions that support healthcare professionals in their daily work. You contribute to the further development of the electronic health record within our Ons® Suite, software used daily by thousands of healthcare professionals across the Netherlands and helping to keep healthcare accessible and future-proof.

In this role, you play an important part in large-scale and complex data migrations involving billions of health record entries. You develop and optimize APIs that are essential for these migrations and for the functioning of the electronic health record itself. Beyond building robust backend solutions, you actively contribute ideas on architecture, abstraction, and tooling that help other teams build faster and smarter.

You combine technical depth with a pragmatic mindset. By reducing complexity and designing systems in a logical way, you create impact for both the development organization and healthcare professionals in practice.

Your responsibilities

Develop APIs

• Build and maintain scalable APIs for the electronic health record and data migrations.

Deliver data migrations

• Contribute to large-scale migrations of complex healthcare data.

Improve architecture

• Actively think about system architecture and reducing technical complexity.

Build tooling and libraries

• Develop reusable solutions that help accelerate other teams.

Collaborate with senior engineers

• Work closely with experienced backend developers on complex technical projects.

Ensure quality

• Deliver reliable, secure, and future-proof solutions.

Your team

As a Backend Developer, you will become part of the Dossier Team within Nedap in healthcare. This team develops solutions that support healthcare professionals in care processes and electronic health record management. The team consists of backend and frontend engineers and UX designers and works project-based in changing sub-teams.

You will collaborate with experienced engineers on complex technical challenges, with knowledge sharing and autonomy at the core of the way of working. Some colleagues work daily from our office in Groenlo, while others combine working from home with working from locations such as Creative Valley in Utrecht. Hybrid working is the standard.

Required skills

We are looking for a Backend Developer with a strong engineering mindset, someone who enjoys working on complex systems and scalable solutions.

You recognize yourself in the following:

• At least 5 years of experience as a software engineer.
• Experience with Ruby on Rails.
• Experience building and maintaining APIs is a plus.
• Experience with large-scale or complex data migrations is a plus.
• Affinity with system architecture and scalable solutions is a plus.
• Strong analytical skills and a pragmatic approach.
• Strong command of English; Dutch is a plus.

Good to know: Hybrid (remote) working is common at Nedap, and together with your team, you decide how to organize your working hours for a healthy work-life balance. You are expected to be on our campus in Groenlo at least once a week.
