EKS Kubernetes Platform Engineer (Freelance)

As a Kubernetes (EKS) Platform Engineer on AWS at NN, you’re central to the IT landscape, enhancing and safeguarding the Kubernetes platforms behind digital services for millions. By building reliable and scalable infrastructure, including AI platforms, you help deliver stable, trustworthy digital solutions.

What you are going to do

As a Kubernetes (EKS) Platform Engineer on AWS, you design, build and improve the Kubernetes infrastructure that underpins NN’s digital services. You work on a large-scale platform with more than 50 clusters, ensuring reliability, scalability and security for mission-critical workloads. By continuously strengthening the core of the IT stack, you enable teams to deliver stable and innovative digital products for customers. Your work directly supports NN’s platform-driven strategy and long-term operational resilience.

Key responsibilities:

• Design, provision and maintain a large-scale Kubernetes platform on AWS (EKS) that supports multiple production and mission-critical workloads
• Continuously enhance platform reliability, observability and scalability by preventing incidents and ensuring smooth daily operations
• Develop and maintain platform components and add-ons using GitOps and AWS CDK to enable faster, safer deployments
• Integrate and advance shared infrastructure services, including AI platform foundations and data-intensive workloads, to enhance overall system performance
• Work closely with other platform teams to improve the core IT stack and platform standards across NN

You also have:

• Around four years of experience working with Kubernetes in a production environment, preferably on AWS EKS
• Solid AWS cloud experience, including services such as networking, IAM, PaaS and IaaS, and how they work together in a platform setup
• Experience with infrastructure and platform automation, for example, using GitOps and AWS CDK
• Programming experience in modern programming languages such as TypeScript and/or Go
• The ability to think about system and platform design at scale, with attention to reliability, observability and security

Who you will work with

You will work with the EKS Platform Team, part of NN’s Engineering Experience & Platforms domain. The team comprises a close-knit group of platform engineers who collaborate on the core Kubernetes infrastructure on AWS. You collaborate closely with neighbouring teams such as the CI/CD and Internal Developer Platform, as well as with DevOps teams across the organisation. The atmosphere is professional and collaborative, with a strong technical focus, open knowledge sharing and a shared responsibility for keeping the platform reliable and future-ready.
