About Mixpanel

Mixpanel’s AI-first digital analytics help teams accelerate adoption, improve retention, and ship with confidence. The platform combines product and web analytics, session replay, experimentation, feature flags, and metric trees.

About the DevInfra Team

The DevInfra team is Mixpanel’s platform engineering team. Its mission is to be a force multiplier for Mixpanel engineering by partnering with engineering teams to build a world-class software development life cycle.

About the Role

We are looking for an engineer with a strong track record of solving tooling pain points, automating away toil, and helping teams deliver software faster, more safely, and more reliably. Someone who is energized by supporting their fellow engineers. An engineer who has good taste and leverages AI to great effect without generating slop. Frequent forays into uncharted territory requires our team to be highly adaptable and always ready to learn. We serve as trailblazers for the rest of Mixpanel engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with a wide variety of teams to optimize their software development lifecycle for speed, safety, and reliability, supporting both front-end UI teams and teams maintaining highly stateful storage systems.
  • Deploy AI tools like Claude Code to the engineering team and build agents into the platform to augment on-call response and automatically one-shot bugs that come through a team’s triage queue.
  • Support systems that ingest more than 1 Trillion user-generated events every month while balancing low end-to-end query latency. Mixpanel queries typically scan more than 1 Quadrillion events over the span of a month.
  • Administer Mixpanel’s Google Cloud Platform and Google Kubernetes Engine environment, including Terraform, cost management, networking, and security best practices.
  • Own Kubernetes standards for deployment, observability, and developer experience, and facilitate efforts like version upgrades and adoption of new Google Kubernetes Engine features.
  • Own observability pipelines, including over 30 million Prometheus metrics time series and over 4 billion distributed tracing spans per month using OpenTelemetry.
  • Maintain GitHub Actions-based CI/CD pipelines and a GitHub-native delivery process that empowers teams to self-serve while ensuring safety and reliability.
  • Maintain the devbox system that provisions cloud development environments for individual developers.
  • Procure best-in-breed SaaS tooling for engineering and manage relationships with vendors such as GitHub, Honeycomb, Chronosphere, and Sentry.
  • Run the new engineer onboarding process.

We're Looking For Someone Who Has

  • 3+ years of industry experience.
  • Experience with at least one of: Go, Python, or JavaScript/TypeScript.
  • Production experience working with Kubernetes.
  • Production experience managing infrastructure in a major cloud provider such as Google Cloud Platform, Amazon Web Services, or Azure, preferably Google Cloud Platform.
  • Knowledge of coding agents like Claude Code.

Bonus Points

  • Experience with observability solutions like OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, or distributed tracing for application monitoring and performance analysis.
  • Experience with service mesh.
  • You write excellent docs.
  • Proficiency with GitHub Actions and the GitHub ecosystem.
  • Experience building deployment pipelines. We love GitOps!
  • Bazel expertise.
  • Experience with Terraform.
  • Experience with cloud Identity and Access Management (IAM) systems and knowledge of security best practices.
  • Experience implementing Internal Developer Platforms like Backstage.
  • Working knowledge of site reliability engineering (SRE) principles such as implementing Service Level Objectives (SLOs).
  • You ❤️ open source.
