Bringing engineering best practices to analytics to strengthen our platform’s foundation

As an Analytics Engineer, you bring engineering best practices to analytics within the Partner domain. Your customers are all analytics consumers within the Partner Domain, from Partner Networking Analysts to Product Analysts close to our API teams. Everyone who consumes data from your analytics layer is your best friend. You’ll partner closely with business, product, and tech to build trusted, scalable, and well-modeled data foundations. Your work ensures a single source of truth for performance metrics, campaign insights, and advertiser behavior, empowering teams to optimize campaigns, innovate features, and drive advertiser success.

The biggest challenge

Scaling fast, while keeping our data foundations clean, consistent, and future proof.

We’re growing in customers, products, domains, and complexity. That means more data, more tools, and more expectations. The challenge is balancing speed and scalability with rigor and governance. You’ll be shaping data models that serve dozens of use cases, helping define what “good” looks like, and navigating ambiguity across teams. You’ll also need to operate in a fast-moving tech landscape where dbt, data modelling, and data contracts are evolving every day.

In our world AI plays a crucial role in the development of this role. How do you enable yourself, your colleagues in analytics engineering, and your analysts in partner analytics with scalable AI solutions? What role will this play in our day-to-day work and how will you be shaping the future?

What you do as Analytics Engineer

You’ll be part of a team of Analytics Engineers that work across data domains such as Customer, Advertising, and Finance, and support the analysts, scientists, data management, and product teams who rely on reliable, modeled data. You’ll be embedded in product teams or work cross-functionally to deliver clean, documented data sets and scalable pipelines.

You are going to:

  • Design and build dbt models from raw data to the domain layer, so analysts and stakeholders can confidently self-serve reliable data.
  • Build and maintain the technical infrastructure for the data models, with the right CI pipelines and a focus on Airflow.
  • Ensure data is tested, documented, and discoverable, so that quality and reliability are standard.
  • Collaborate with analysts and product teams to understand their data needs and ensure the models you build create real impact.
  • Improve the performance and reliability of models so your pipelines can scale with increasing volume and complexity.
  • Contribute to internal standards and best practices, so your work becomes the foundation for others.

As an Analytics Engineer, you’ll land in the Partner (Analytics) department, where data drives every decision from improving partner performance to building scalable insight for internal steering. You’ll be part of a multidisciplinary team of analysts, engineers, and product thinkers working together to create the best advertising experience for our advertisers, partners, and customers. It’s a dynamic environment where your models directly influence business growth, and your voice helps shape how data is used across one of our most impactful domains.

Why you can make the difference

Because you’re an enthusiastic team player who lives and breathes analytics. You combine solid technical skills with the ability to translate abstract insights into specific improvement proposals. You’re not just fluent in SQL or dbt, you understand what your data is for. You’re curious about the business, not afraid to ask “why,” and thoughtful in how you model data. You bring structure where others see chaos. You’re collaborative, care about quality, and want to make a difference by enabling others.

3 reasons why this is (not) for you

Yes,

  • If you’re trained as an Analyst or Scientist but have a deeper interest in software engineering than most. (>2 year’s experience)
  • If SQL, Python and Git are your home away from home.
  • If you want to share your knowledge and experience with others.

No,

  • If you have a hard time forming and expressing your opinion. Your contribution in meetings is generally limited to shaking your head and nodding.
  • If your work ends when you complete the analytics layer and you don’t care what happens with the results.
  • If you distrust new techniques and methods and rely on one-trick-pony power #safetyfirst.

This is where you’ll work

You’ll work at bol’s online retail tech platform in the Netherlands and Belgium, where 12 million customers can choose from over 28 million articles and roughly 42,000 commercial partners run their businesses. You’ll join a platform that is continuously evolving, together with customers, partners, and over 2,320 colleagues, in an environment focused on continuously improving how things work and finding better ways to do them.
