Do you want to help shape the energy transition of ports and maritime infrastructure?

With us, you will have the opportunity to contribute directly to the energy transition of ports, terminals and offshore wind developments — while growing into a leading specialist in your field.

What you do as a Junior Electrical Engineer / Energy Consultant – Green Ports

As a junior, you are not a bystander — you contribute to real projects from day one. Working alongside experienced colleagues, you take part in conceptual studies, designs and advisory work at the intersection of electrical engineering and sustainable energy. You learn the profession in practice, supported by a team of enthusiastic specialists.

Your contributions can range from high-level conceptual desktop studies to supporting on-site commissioning activities. Your tasks include:

  • Contributing to designs of electrical (power) systems for ports and terminals, shore power installations, solar systems and wind farms
  • Supporting consultancy on electrification, clean energy carriers such as hydrogen, energy efficiency improvement and local renewable power generation
  • Assisting with design reviews of energy-related systems developed by others
  • Working on cost estimates and economic evaluations (CAPEX and OPEX) of technical alternatives
  • Collaborating with Haskoning teams from around the world or with other consultancy firms

No two days are the same. You may work on projects such as the innovative shore power installation for cruise ships at the Port of Rotterdam — a project in which Haskoning worked closely with the Port of Rotterdam Authority. Or on the NortH2 project, where offshore wind energy is converted into green hydrogen for industrial clusters across Northwest Europe. Our Smart and Green Ports advisory work helps ports all around the world take decisive steps towards Net Zero.

Where you will work

At Haskoning, you will join an independent, employee-owned international consultancy that combines engineering, design, and consultancy services with software and technology.

We offer purpose-driven and challenging work in diverse international projects. We collaborate with leading clients in markets such as infrastructure, climate resilience, renewable energy, decarbonisation of industry, and sustainable mobility.

As our Junior Electrical Engineer / Energy Consultant – Green Ports, you will become part of the Business Line Water & Maritime (BL W&M), focused on three leading markets: maritime, climate resilience and water technology. Within our Advisory Group Maritime & Renewables NL (approximately 230 professionals), we work closely together on integrated projects in the fields of ports, waterways, coasts and rivers.

Our dedicated Smart and Green Port teams support clients in tackling the most important challenges of our time — from Net Zero and climate resilience to smart asset management and the energy transition of ports. We continuously develop industry-leading knowledge and combine it in an innovative, integrated approach to deliver the best solutions for our clients and society.

You will help build long-lasting client relationships and collaborate with colleagues across our international offices around the world. That is what makes this team special: technically challenging, and with a real impact on society.

What you bring

We are not looking for a ready-made expert — we are looking for someone with the right mindset and a drive to learn and grow. We do not expect you to bring years of experience. What we do expect:

  • A completed Bachelor's (BSc) or Master's (MSc) degree in Electrical Engineering
  • A genuine interest in electrical power systems and/or sustainable energy
  • An entrepreneurial, proactive attitude and a strong willingness to learn
  • Good communication skills in English
  • A true team player who is also able to work independently

Advantageous:

  • Proficiency in Dutch or another second language
  • Affinity with shore power systems, offshore wind, solar energy or hydrogen
  • Familiarity with software such as PVsyst, DIgSILENT, ETAP or equivalent
  • Initial work experience through an internship or graduation project at a consultancy, client organisation or contractor
