Are you at the start of your career and keen to work on impactful international projects? In this role, you will develop your ESG consultancy skills while supporting project developers and financial institutions in making projects bankable and sustainable. You will learn from experienced colleagues in an international, multidisciplinary team.

What will you do

You will support the delivery and development of our international ESG services. Working closely with experienced colleagues, you will contribute to both proposal development and project execution across our core service areas, gaining broad exposure to international projects, clients and ESG standards.

You will assist on:

  • ESG in Transactions Advisory, supporting due diligence assignments in the context of Project Finance
  • Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIA), helping projects meet international sustainability and bankability requirements
  • Sustainability Strategy services, such as ESG performance assessments and sustainability roadmaps

This role offers a strong learning curve across different project types and geographies, while allowing you to gradually take on more responsibility within proposals and projects.

Where you will work

At Haskoning, you will join an independent, employee-owned international consultancy that combines engineering, design, and consultancy services with software and technology.

You will be part of the ESG Team within the Advisory Group Energy & Process in the Netherlands. This group consists of around 90 consultants who combine technical, environmental, and strategic expertise to support clients in their transition towards a low-carbon economy. Our services span transactions advisory, master planning, project definition, and conceptual design, with a focus on energy systems, logistics, and supply chains.

The ESG Team itself comprises 11 environmental consultants with a strong international focus and extensive practical experience of applying internationally recognized environmental and social (E&S) performance standards to assess projects and investments. Our work is primarily in the energy and industry sectors, with additional experience in the maritime and aviation sectors.

Examples of recent projects our team has worked on include:

  • Identification of E&S constraints during the pre-feasibility phase of a gigawatt-scale renewable energy hub in Australia
  • An ESIA scoping study for a green hydrogen project in Oman
  • Acting as Lenders’ E&S Advisor for a major new port in Marocco
  • Development of a global ESG framework for Airports Council International (ACI)

What you bring

You are an enthusiastic starter who is eager to develop into an international ESG consultant. You enjoy working with data and written outputs, are keen to learn from experienced colleagues, and feel comfortable adapting to new topics, standards and project contexts. You take ownership of your tasks and contribute actively to a collaborative team environment.

You recognise yourself in the following:

  • A multidisciplinary academic background, ideally combining a master’s degree rooted in environmental or sustainability discipline (e.g. Environmental Sciences, Applied Earth Sciences, Sustainable Energy) with some exposure to economics, governance, law, business, or social sciences through a minor, bachelor’s degree, or equivalent
  • Strong attention to detail and data literacy, allowing you to work accurately with project and environment data and background information
  • Good writing skills, with the ability to contribute to structured, clear and concise reports
  • An adaptable and curious mindset, enabling you to quickly grasp new subjects, ESG frameworks, and regional contexts
  • A proactive attitude and willingness to learn, ask questions and take initiative within projects
  • Comfort working in an international and multicultural context, including flexibility, pragmatism and openness to occasional travel
  • Good command of English; proficiency in Dutch is a strong plus

Previous relevant work experience in consultancy, international project development or the investment sector is considered an advantage.
