About the role

We are looking for a Lab Assistant (m/v/x) to join our team in Amsterdam for two days a week. This role is intended for students currently enrolled in a chemistry-related degree, offering the opportunity to gain hands-on work experience in a business setting. In this role, you will support the development, testing, and quality control of products for our Jan Dekker brand (mostly ingredients used in the production of personal care and food products). You will work closely with the different teams within Jan Dekker (technical, operational, commercial), performing essential laboratory tests and analyses to ensure product quality and compliance with industry standards. This role consists of partly lab (application testing and product formulation) and administrative documentation tasks.

Tasks and responsibilities:

• Perform laboratory tests and analyses on ingredients marketed under the Jan Dekker brand (e.g. mostly ingredients used in the production of personal care and food products).
• Prepare detailed reports on test results, including observations, data, and conclusions.
• Participate in trials and pilot runs, providing analytical data and insights.
• Register incoming samples.
• Entering and updating records in our CRM system and other administrative task.
• Being responsible for lab management (maintenance, inventory management). Operate and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment.

Qualifications:

• Studying Chemistry, Biochemistry, Food Science, or a related field.
• Experience working in a laboratory setting, preferably within personal care, cosmetics, or food ingredient industries is a plus.
• Proficiency in laboratory techniques and equipment operation.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to conduct precise measurements independently.
• High level of pro-activeness.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
• Familiarity with safety and regulatory standards.
• Excellent organizational and documentation skills.
• Fluent in English (verbally and in writing) is a must.
• Dutch or EU work permit required.
