Build the foundation for how content is created, managed, and scaled across bol

How do you make our customers happy?

At bol, content is at the heart of how we serve customers — from product information to marketing, compliance, and storytelling. As a Software Engineer in the Content Management team (currently known as Product Catalog), you’ll help build a new, company-wide content management platform that enables teams across bol to create, manage, and distribute content efficiently and responsibly.

What is this content you ask? Think of a wide range of content types and uses: product information, TikTok influencer videos, product manual PDFs, or promotion banners made by our colleagues to highlight sales.

You’ll join at an early stage of this initiative, where architectural choices, technical foundations, and ways of working are still being shaped. This gives you real influence: your ideas and craftsmanship directly impact how content flows through bol for years to come.

What you’ll do

You’ll work in a cross-functional product team that owns the platform end-to-end. Together, you design, build, run, and continuously improve the services you deliver. Your work includes:

  • Building and evolving backend services for a scalable content management platform
  • Collaborating closely with product, design, and stakeholders across the company
  • Making pragmatic technical choices that balance speed, quality, and long-term maintainability
  • Improving existing capabilities while also creating new ones from scratch (AI!)
  • Actively engaging with internal users through interviews and feedback to ensure we solve the right problems

The biggest challenge

There is a lot of content and there are a lot of owners and use cases to consider and cater for. We’re starting from discovery into delivery: translating a broad, company-wide content ambition into a clear, reliable, and extensible platform. You’ll help navigate ambiguity, align with multiple stakeholders, and turn complex content needs into simple, usable technical solutions — all while setting solid engineering foundations.

This is where you will work

You’ll be part of a newly forming team focused on Content Management as a core bol capability. The team values curiosity, ownership, and collaboration. We don’t expect everything to be clear from day one — learning together and iterating fast is part of the job.

What you bring

  • You’re flexible, curious, and comfortable working in evolving problem spaces
  • Interested in exploring AI opportunities to aid efficiency for both engineers and users
  • Experience with Java and/or Kotlin
  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform
  • Golang knowledge is a plus, not a requirement
  • Front-end experience with React is a nice-to-have
  • You value user feedback and have experience (or interest) in user interviewing

Perks

  • 29 days of vacation
  • Relocation assistance to the Netherlands from the moment you have the job
  • An inspiring and creative office environment
