Would you like to help create healthier and safer indoor spaces? In this role, you will get to transfer scientific research into practical tools and information for professionals and policymakers.

Job description

Within the multi-year MIST project, TU Delft is working on knowledge transfer. The project focuses on developing innovative ventilation and air purification techniques with the aim of enhancing the safety and health of indoor environments. A key focus area is the mitigation of the transmission of infectious diseases through the air, such as the novel Coronavirus (Covid-19).

As a knowledge transfer specialist, you will translate research results from other work packages carried out by partner universities into accessible information, as well as decision-making and design tools. You will communicate with a broad audience, including building owners, facility managers, installation consultants, installers, architects, and policymakers. The emphasis will be on practical application, impact and usability rather than developing fundamental knowledge.

Your responsibilities will include developing interactive (online) checklists, maintaining and updating the project website and producing the regular digital newsletter. You will also write articles for trade media, organise and coordinate events and work on the development of (online) courses. In addition, you will maintain active contact with the researchers involved, as well as representatives from the business community and trade media.

You will work within the Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment, department of Architectural Engineering + Technology, and will report to Professor Atze Boerstra, a specialist in building installations. You will join an inter-university network of researchers and PhD candidates, and will collaborate with an externally hired communications specialist.

This temporary position is part-time (approximately 0.5 FTE) and offers a high degree of independence and responsibility, as well as visibility, and allows for flexible working hours and partial working from home.

Job requirements

  • You have at least a Master’s degree in a technical field, journalism or communication sciences, or a comparable higher professional education (HBO) level, accompanied by relevant experience and independence.
  • You have a proven track record of successfully transferring knowledge from scientific research results to a broader, non-academic audience.
  • You work independently and in a structured manner, easily taking the initiative within a project context.
  • You have excellent written and oral communication skills in both Dutch (minimum B1 level is a strict requirement) and English.
  • You thrive in an interdisciplinary and international research environment.
  • Experience with website management, video editing, and creating design tools is desirable.
  • An understanding of building and/or ventilation technology would be advantageous.

  • Duration of contract is 1 year with prospect of extension.
  • An excellent pension scheme via the ABP.
  • The possibility to compile an individual employment package every year.
