In this role, the Data Centre Operations Manager reports into the Senior Data Centre Operations Manager.
The primary function of the DCOM job role is to lead and manage the day-to-day operations of the Roosendaal data centre. You will lead the operational management team based at the facility to ensure that all electrical, mechanical, life safety and security infrastructure systems are kept running effectively & safely across the whole facility. This will be achieved by ensuring all data centre infrastructure is maintained and operated in accordance with Colt Data Centre Services global operational standards.
The DCOM will play a key leadership role in ensuring we deliver a comprehensive service to all our customers, in accordance with their service contracts. The DCOM will be directly engaging with our customers; dealing with queries, new initiatives and generally assisting them where necessary to support their business needs. The DCOM will be the lead role operationally and will manage financial costs against operational budgets for the Roosendaal data centre. The successful candidate will drive value for COLT DCS by managing the operational team in all aspects of the day-to-day operations.

- Successfully manage a Colt DCS Site Operations Manager (SOM), and a third-party supplier responsible for operationally managing the data centre.
- Provide guidance and leadership to a highly skilled team of technicians to ensure they use their skills and knowledge to efficiently and effectively manage the day to day operations of the data centre.
- Work with the Senior Data Centre Operations Manager and the DCS finance manager to forecast, track and manage the operational costs of running the data centre.
- Ensure Colt DCS maintains legal compliance to operate within the country (this will be supported centrally).
- Work towards successful Zero Waste To Landfill (ZWTL) TRUE accreditation.
- Drive exceptional customer service, while ensuring no customer affecting incidents, accidents or downtime.
- Manage OPEX & CAPEX budgets with support from the Senior Data Centre Operations Manager.
- Play an active role, along with the team, in supporting the use BIM 360 and other systems as appropriate.
- Develop management experience and improve knowledge of other areas within the DCS business.
- Review and set End-Of-Life annual infrastructure refresh budgets and support the delivery of new replacement projects.
- Ensure the timely repair of any break-fix corrective works.
- Successfully maintain the monthly focus on level 1 Health & Safety meetings.
- Drive improvement plans to delivery business efficiencies, higher quality of operations and exceptional customer satisfaction.
- Local implementation and compliance with Service Operations processes (Incident, Problem, Change, Capacity).
- Accountable for staff, budgets and supplier management for the data centre(s).
- Proactively drive energy efficiency initiatives which delivery energy savings and record these results.
- Have no legally reportable incident or accidents.
- Ensure the Operations team keep JCAD risk register up to date with current operational risks.
- Identifying internal and third-party team technical and professional development and training.
- Ensure the data centre meets cleanliness standards at all times.
- Oversee the successful operation of security systems (with the support from the local Security Manager).
- Actively support all initiatives associated with our ESG strategy, which focus on decarbonising our business, connecting people and safeguarding our company.
- Lead initiatives and drive ideas to maintain a happy operations team.
Experience & knowledge
- Experience of working as a technical manager of a data centre.
- Experience of managing specialist contractors in data centre operational environments.
- Solid technical understanding of electrical, mechanical, life safety and security systems.
- Fully conversant with Permit-To-Work safe systems of working.
- Good working knowledge of Health & Safety in the workplace.
- Experience in dealing with customers in mission critical environments.
- Ability to make and develop plans for the team (and themselves), making sure these are performed in a timely manner.
- Sound knowledge of data centre electrical/mechanical systems, infrastructure, and engineering practices.
- Excellent customer service skills aligned with customer driven values.
