Job Description

As Lead Usability Designer MRI you own and drive the usability engineering process for MRI systems, ensuring safe and effective use of complex medical devices through world‑class human‑factors practices. This role combines deep regulatory expertise, hands‑on usability leadership, and team coaching to deliver exceptional user and patient experiences across hardware, software, and AI solutions.

Your role:

  • You ensure MRI products are safe, effective, and intuitive by leading the usability engineering process and raising the bar for human‑factors excellence.
  • Your work directly contributes to improved use‑related safety, regulatory compliance, and superior user- and patient experiences across our global product portfolio.
  • Participate in internal and external audits, ensuring full alignment with FDA guidance, EU MDR, IEC 62366‑1, and related standards.
  • Conduct expert reviews, heuristics evaluations, and structured usability tests; analyze qualitative and quantitative data; and translate insights into actionable design guidance.
  • You collaborate closely with product management, clinical experts, regulatory affairs, risk management, Q&R, R&D, product design, UX design, and marketing, acting as the central usability expert across hardware, software, and AI projects.
  • This role allows you to deepen your expertise as a usability process owner, expand leadership skills through coaching and resource management, and influence cross‑functional design workflows.
  • You will contribute to the growth and maturity of the MR usability competence, work with the global Usability Center of Excellence, and help shape how human‑factors practices evolve in a rapidly advancing medical technology domain.

You’re the right fit if:

  • You have 7–10 years of hands‑on usability engineering experience in the medical device industry, with mastery of FDA guidance, EU MDR, IEC 62366‑1, and related standards.
  • You are skilled in usability evaluation (formative & summative), heuristics reviews, prototyping, inclusive design, data analysis, and cross-functional stakeholder management.
  • You hold a Master’s or PhD in Industrial Design, Product Design, Cognitive Science, Psychology, Human‑Computer Interaction, Human Factors, or a related field.
  • You have demonstrated experience establishing and maintaining usability processes and growing a human‑factors competence within a team.
  • You understand research study design, qualitative & quantitative analysis, and the end‑to‑end product creation process from requirements to validation and post‑market insights.
  • You are an excellent communicator who thrives in global, multidisciplinary environments and can coach others while still being hands‑on.
